Anyone heard of 'Wishbone' or 'Frangelica'?

Noob here. I just got my 1st pipe and two blends of tobacco called 'Wishbone' and 'Frangelica'. I have not been able to find anything online about them and was wondering if any of you had heard of it. I'd love to know if it is Virginia, or English, and so on so I know for future reference what it is about the blends I like or dislike. Are the aeromatic or not? Stuff like that...

I tried the Wishbone yesterday. It was not bad, and I see the potential, but I was just working on the learning curve anyways. Thanks for any input/suggestions you have.

Sorry...I got it from the local shop, Georgia Cigar and Tobacco. There was no brand name on the jar, nor any other identifying information. The guy just said they were the best sellers, and I was just starting out so I said what the heck.

I just did some more searching, and I spelled 'frangelica' with an 'o' at the end, instead of the 'a', and got a blend from Tinderbox, so that may answer some of my questions. I still can't find anything on Wishbone...

My guess is frangelica would have a Hazelnut flavor,,,,

The wishbone I have no clue, did it taste like Italian dressing??

The thing about buying bulk from the local B/M is sometimes they put thier own names on bulk blends that are pretty common, and its hard to check out reviews and such.

Let us now what you think about them, and enjoy your pipes I'm a newbie to so were both still learning.. try a little prince albert seriously, get at the loca drud store

Ask the tobacconist where he buys it. Chances are it's from Lane Limited. Ask him by what name he buys it. Pipe shops tend to buy from the same few suppliers and give the tobacco their own name. The shop I used to work at bought Lane's BCA (for example) and called it St Andrews. But it was the same BCA that's available at just about every pipe shop I've ever been in.

Re: Anyone heard of 'Wishbone' or 'Frangelica'?

I got some more information from the guy at the tobacco shop...

Wishbone is actually the '1Q' blend from Lane Limited and is the same as Wilshire at Tinder Box. According to tobaccoreviews.com, this is, "basically a Golden Cavendish blend but with a hint of Fire-Cured blended in provides scintillating taste and flavorful aroma." So that is helpful.

I did not get any more information on the Frangelica, but I did pick up a couple oz. of "Vanilla Black" which is another Lane Limited blend, 'BCA'. According to tobaccoreviews.com, this blend is, "Fire-cured Cavendish tobaccos discreetly flavored to produce an extremely mild, slow burning cool smoke."

Anyways, just thought I'd share that with ya'll. If I get anymore information on the Frangelica, I will post it here as well.

I like scintillating but found it only once from a tobacconist's jar. But you never know what day you'll stumble into a pipe shop and meet a guy who has spent the last 40-years working on the "perfect" blend, though.

Mostly I find aromatics mixed (or sold bulk) at tobak stores and, after many letdowns, have gone to the other "usual suspects" blenders.

Re: Anyone heard of 'Wishbone' or 'Frangelica'?

I would bet Lane's 1Q is THE most popular tobacco store blend in the country in terms of sales. It was also the first bowl of non-drug store tobacco I ever smoked, going by the name "Swansea" at the B&M. Captain Black Royal without the preservatives, is how it was told to me at the time.

Ah, the memories!

Yeah I think Lane makes a hazelnut, I bet that is what the Frangelica is.

The B&M's come up with some crazy names. I don't mind that, but it makes it hard if you find a blend you love and want to buy more of it. (or one you hate and want to avoid it)

A B&M over here has a bunch of Lane and McClelland bulk blends renamed as neighborhoods in the area. Kinda neat, but, I don't really see the point.

B&M in S.L.O. is called the Sanctuary and the owner doug calls all of his bulks by church related names like Clergy, Chalice, Notre Dame, Friar, etc. Pretty neat and a great guy, it's in a old brick building which actually makes it a B&M too.

It used to be they did that to promote the mystique of "house blends" - meaning they gave off the impression that they had the services of some in-house blender. "You should try one of OUR house blends"... emphasis added.

Most B&M's will tell you what it is and who makes it if you ask. There is one shop around here that uses Lane's names but on the other hand, which sounds more appealing... Lane's RLP-6 or Golden Harvest Ambrosia? Marketing, y'know....

There's nothing quite like a warm cozy fire, a plush chair, a glass of brandy and a bowl of Blend # C-38f4.023 to make an evening just right.

I guess I get the one blend-many names idea. I'm lucky though 'cause my local B&M owner actually does make a few blends himself and I think one of them in particular really rocks.
