With Escudo it was a distributor problem - they didn't have one at the time. Whatever was in the "channel" was being gouged by every vendor for upto $12 a tin (except smkgpipes, gotta give them credit for that). Just when Moo and myself cleaned out the racks, the new tins appeared (with the new distributor name) and we stopped hoarding. Mastercard and Visa stock prices plummeted, probably causing the banking meltdown.

One thing I also noticed is that Peter Stokkebye is mentioned on the new tin. I always thought it was AC Petersen who made it - but then there was a company takeover/sale/merger thing a while back and its possible they are all one big happy corporation now.

So has anyone actually TRIED the new stuff yet?

I have and I really enjoy it. I never smoked the old blend so I can't give you a comparison though. If you've got more than one tin of new(est) crack it open and compare them for us - if you do I, for one, would be interested in hearing them compared.

Picked up my first tin of it today. The first bowl in my new Boswell. Very pleased with it.

Re: New Escudo Labeling

I still have an "on-topic" question. Can anyone please tell me when A&C Peterson went from the painted-top, smaller (but still 50g) tins to the larger, stickered-top tins?

I have one of these tins I recieved in trade and try to keep meticulous records of my collection but have only, as of yet, been able to establish a date of between 1997 and ????.

i have a # of tins that are small painted tins that were made by A&C Peterson. i thought i'd read someplace that the bigger/sticker tins started around '04, but could easily be wrong.

i've always wanted to know why ppl thought that since Dunhill tobacs will be discontinued, what in the hell did that have to do with Escudo?

When all the chatter began, Escudo was included in frequent fear-monger mentionings with Dunhill brands as a "to be discontinued" tin. Somebody had a rationale but I can't remember who. Fact remains that Escudo became a little hard to find and now a JR lady told me they couldn't get either and would not be carrying them anymore. That's hard to believe and I know this lady is not exactly the head of merchandising for JR.

Fear mongering? No way Moo! Probably just some little drama queen making life interesting. I actually heard that PS has taken over Escudo production but according to Greg Pease AC Peterson has been a subsidiary since the rights were bought from Copes. Not being a fan of Dunhill I can't remember what I heard there, but I think the bulks are still in production, maybe under a different label.

Glad I gave away all my tins of Escudo before the drama started. I couldn't live like that...

IHT, thanks!

Still looking for confirmation of this. I've tried google searching and haven't turned up anything yet. If you or anyone else could lead me to some solid info on this I'd appreciate it.

[drama]Cracked the tin. Contents look, smell and smoke like... Escudo. Nothing odd here except the revised label.[/drama]
