Local B&M Not Going to Sell Tins Anymore

Hey guys,

I went by a local B&M in Oklahoma City today to look for some pipe tobacco. They said that as soon as they sell out of their current stock they will no longer be selling pipe tobacco in tins anymore. They said it was due to the tax laws governing tobacco in Oklahoma. They said that it would be mush more costly to sell tins, so they made the decision not to, and only sell bulk.

Has anyone else ran into this where you live?

I havent heard that about tins, but nothing is surprising when it comes to taxing tobacco.

Just makes online shopping that much more attractive.

i live in up state new york and the tabacco tax is 37% plus sales tax of 8.75 so as you can see taxes are killing the local shop here when you can buy on line and pay no tax tobacco or sales happy smoking if you can afford the taxes

I have a local shop that refuses to stock tins, does only bulk. His business suffers because of it. I buy pipe cleaners and such from him, but never tobacco.

This may sound like a stupid question, but does the B&M have the ability to buy the tin tobacco in bulk from the manufacturer? I mean, does Samuel Gawith, for instance, sell Squadron Leader in bulk as WELL AS in tins?
I know that I bought Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend from another store recently and it was in bulk, not in a tin.

I know for a fact that smokingpipes.com sells Squadron Leader in bulk as well as most of the others SG blends, so maybe your B&M can start getting it in bulk.

Golden Leaf in Minneapolis, MN stocks a good number of bluk baccys from that are usually available in tins. I got SG Full Virginia Flake and Dunhill Early Morning Pipe from them the other day.

I would rather buy tins, but it is an alternative if you don't want to shop online or need some baccy quickly.
