Did anyone actually like MacB's Vanilla Cream?

I for one thoroughly enjoyed my first bowl of Vanilla Cream today on my rooftop (yes, i smoke on my roof). I had a gracious number of flakes, courtesy of bpcr (thanks bro ), and decided to light one up today after a hearty binge at the local japanese buffet. Sad thing is, my family is going out in about 15 minutes to a nice Greek restaurant and I don't know what i'm going to do .

I only filled about 3/4 of my Grabow w/ it and didn't spend more than 15-20 minutes on the smoke, but I really enjoyed it. The flakes smell like vanilla/banana to me, and I could actually taste a hint of what seemed like banana while i was smoking. It was behind the vanilla for sure, but it was delightful. I didn't experience the Macbite like everyone speaks of but I am also a sipper, very much so.

Anyways, did anyone else like this blend? Flake or loose cut.

I like the Vanilla Creme; and I've only had the flake. It's not a strong aromatic, which is one reason why I like it, but has a nice balance to it...nutty and vanilla. I'll look for the "banana" next time I try it.

Re: Did anyone actually like MacB's Vanilla Cream?

It was Ok, it had a little bite to me, but I still smoked a 100g tin.
Not sure if I'll buy it again, after Python recommended Dan SVH.

If you like the MB vanilla cream, the Dan Sweet Vanilla Honeydew is 10 times better.

I'll send you a sample of that too !

I'm still a noob when it comes to pipe tobacco, so take my recomend with a grain of salt.

I was actually at my local TinderBox and saw this blend in bulk (one of the very few they have outside of their house blends) and I didn't think twice about it. I'll need to check this one out!

Never could get into the aeromatics... i gave them a chance on more htan one occasion.
Mac BLowtorch was the least of my favorites..

I still keep a jar filled with a mixture of butternut burley and trout stream on my desk/display.. when guests come over and want to smell the pipe tobacco, they pick up that jar and take a whiff... it smells fantastic..

I try smoking it once a year, and about 3/4 the way through i get bored.
IM gonna try aeromatics again this xmas.. i will place an order for some this years McCelland's Xmas aeromatic. (i forget the name).
I Imagine the room note will be nice for company..

Perhaps ill enjoy this one, i do think McCelland is one of the finest pipe tobacco companies out today.. their VAs are tops.. and now they also have the best orientals...

I have yet to try an aromatic that I have liked but haven't tried any except the bulk stuff from the tobacco store at the mall. Do you guys think this stuff will have more flavor? I have noticed the stuff at the mall smells great but has almost zero taste. I do like the idea of the aromatics because my wife wouldn't mind sitting with me when I smoke but if I can't taste it its just not woth it.

My experience with aromatics is the same as yours. They're inoffensive to the tongue and they smell great but they're just too mild and bland most of the time. I'm a huge fan of McClellands virginias but I've found their aromatics to share the same characteristics above that other aromatics do. I still like to have some around the house but I spend my money elsewhere.

I need to go back and try McClellands orientals again. It's been years and I just don't recall how they smoked. I do remember their #8 had one of the best room aromas for an English!

This blend provided me with a very mild but noticeable taste to it. Again, mainly vanilla w/ what seemed like a banana background note (or whatever i smelled straight from the flake). If you're looking for aromatics w/ a noticeable and enjoyable taste, i'd recommend:

Boswell's Berry Cobbler
Boswell's Dutch Treat
Boswell's No Bite DeLite
Lane's BCA
Tinderbox Reserve 1928

Re: Did anyone actually like MacB's Vanilla Cream?

IMO it smells great in the tin but I was dissappointed when I lit it up. The smoke paled in comparison. I experienced some minor tongue bite despite how slow my smoking pace was. Overall it just didn't impress me...

It is safe to say that this particular blend is not one I carry on hand anymore.

There are other great Vanilla blends out there....Dan's Vanilla Honeydew comes to mind.

Re: Did anyone actually like MacB's Vanilla Cream?

I love MacB's Vanilla Cream, it's about the only aromatic I enjoy. My first bowl was rather unpleasant, it wouldn't stay lit, and I got bit, but after a month or so of drying in the tin, things really improved.

I liked the ribbon cut better but I think both are kind of weak on flavor. I prefer Stokkebye Vanilla Cream and French Vanilla.
