Is there no more ToM?

While reading through the posts, I noticed some Tobacco of the Month posts. I haven't seen any for the past few months though. Is this not happening anymore?

Would love to get in on this, always ready to try new tobaccos.

Re: Is there no more ToM?

Well, I was responsible for running the last few ToM's, and I will tell you why I have not done ones for October or November. It took a decent amount of time to research different blends to find something that was different, had not been reviewed (or at least not much or in a while) and was decently easy for anybody to get. So after putting in this time the lack of response (especially the last one) from members made it too frustrating to continue.
I would be more than willing to get back to it if there was some real interest in seeing it come back. I just do not want to put a lot of time into something that no one will participate in.
The other option would be to post one up yourself (that is essentially what I was told when I asked the same question, lol)

Re: Is there no more ToM?

Well, it would be quite selfish of me to say "Hey, let's get this going again" just because I joined the forum. I would not, however, pass up an opportunity to review should this come back to fruition.

I was just about to make an order from www.pipesandcigars.com that would include my first Old Boy lighter, so maybe I'll hold off for a few days, to see if there is more interest.

Re: Is there no more ToM?

What about an EPS (Experienced Pipe Smoker) taking the lead on telling a group of Newbies what to smoke every month or every couple of weeks to get rounded out on the various types/blends? I'm thinking of some of the threads asking about the different types and good examples. Perhaps we could get a group together and each person could be responsible for puchasing enough tobacco to distribute to the other newbies and we would take turnes sending the samples out each month? Maybe?

I don't know, but those are some ideas.

Re: Is there no more ToM?

That's a really cool idea. It could be sorta like a class run by an EPS. It could be like a tour of Englishes, or VAs, or whatever. The EPS could organize what to smoke and when and maybe give an explanation of why he/she is assigning this particular tobacco (ie this is a good example of a lakeland blend) and the newbies could post their comments on each blend.

You could even have it where a certain # of newbies sign up and each contribute some amount of money and then the EPS goes and buys each of the tobaccos and then mails them out...sorta like the blind taste tests but instead each baggie is an 'assignment' for the class.

I'm interested if this idea hasn't already failed.

I like this idea very much. It could be a very good representative sample, you could discuss the exact same thing with a number of people, and sometimes people won't do what's good for them unless they're forced. In this case, the "force" is the structure of "classes" run by an EPS.

an excellent idea.

Now all we need is an EPS.

Re: Is there no more ToM?

I've posted a thread officially asking for an EPS to take this on. Here's a link:

Re: Is there no more ToM?

I saw your other thread in which I don't have the time needed for something like that I wouldn't mind running a regualr TOM for you guys let me know. If no one minds I'll start it up on the reviews forum. I'll let another BOTL respond to the other thread.
