well, i just ordered 9 tins from "smokingpipes.com", and with deliver, it rang up to less than $79. so, i'm happy. we'll see how fast it gets here and its condition.
they have a super huge selection, too.

I think it might be the amount of tobacco - a 2oz tim will last a lot longer than you think - and there are a lot of tobacco's to try.

I have been buying larger quantaties at a small cost per ounce once I know how much I like the tobacco. But, to your point, I did buy and 8oz bag of the penzance.

not all pipe tobacco comes in a bag, either tubs or tins. i just used the term "tin" to encompass tubs and tins.

i almost ordered a bulk bag of "Rattrays Hal o' the Wynd" but where i ordered from didn't have it.

no real reason, other than that's what they have for the most part.
i'm pretty much done with house brand bulk tobacco... i know they're made for them by big companies, but i'd rather have my stuff in an original package, sealed, etc.

i know that doesn't explain anything, just my preferences.

ps - a few of these tins were for my PIF to someone. hopefully i'll get them in monday.

I ordered a pound over the weekend. I have an almost full Tin so hopefully I will be able to age these a little bit.

I got a call saying they were out. It is backordered for a couple of weeks. They will ship it out when it comes in.

Though I just bought a bag at a local B&M for $21 which is a pretty good deal and I will not have to deal with the shipping.

Are the bags OK for aging or should I move them into Mason Jars?

These are heavy foil bags so I leave them be for ageing ... opened bags obviously into mason jars.

I usually transfer a good amount 2-4 ounces to a user friendly container so I don't have reopen the bag frequently. Seems to keep the bag contents fairly moist. Make sure the bag closes tightly. Squeeze most of the air out and tape it shut. Store in a cool, dry place. I use a basement closet.

Another point...Penzance is a terrific Latika-rich tobacco blend. If you want to smoke other tobaccos, like for review puposes, don't smoke Penzance or other heavy Latakia blends before smoking non-Latakia blends. You won't be able to taste much after smoking the Latakia blends.

One other blend that does the same thing to the tastebuds is Orlick's Dark Strong Kentucky.

I have ordered many times from Lil' Brown. I have had good luck with them every time. I think they are the shop that has the $7.00 shipping? If so, make a big enough order to cover that flat shipping fee. In other words, it would be an expensive place to order one tin from...

Lil' Brown started selling Count Pulaski at my request. I just sent them an email and about three weeks later they started selling it. It is in the "bulk" section under the "C.C.C." heading. I think Consolidated (C.C.C.) became Altadis or was purchased by Altadis.

might have to put back another bag of this stuff!!
