Question about GL Pease blends...

I was going through all the different blends GL Pease offers and it appears that almost every single one either contains perique or latakia (and of course Virginian, but mainly latakia).

My question is: What could possibly distinguish all of them from each other w/ such a common thread? And why not make just a straight Virginian blend?

Also, what does everyone think about Barbary Coast, Montgomery, and Stonehenge as these are the ones i noticed don't contain Latakia or much Perique?

Re: Question about GL Pease blends...

I have actually read an article by Pease that states that he gets heckled from his friends because he has never come out with a straight virginia blend.

If you smoke a lot of these, you will find that there are subtle differences between them. Some are big differences.

You are probably aware of it but perhaps those that check into this thread may not have encountered the GL Pease web site. It is full of information regarding blending and other things of interest for those that love the leaf.

I think Montgomery is pretty much a straight Virginia blend.

Re: Question about GL Pease blends...

I currently have 3 Pease blends in my rotation and I like them all.

1. Haddo's Delight
2. Cairo
3. Embarcadero

Haddo's (My fav) Has perique, I LOVE PERIQUE
Cairo has a little perique, Did I mention I LOVE PERIQUE
Embarcadero has no perique, WHERE"S THE PERIQUE DAMNIT!!! (just kidding you need a change from time to time.

For straight Virginia I have FVF and McClellands Blackwoods Flake so I'm good in that department.

I have yet to try a Pease blend I don't like...good stuff!

Re: Question about GL Pease blends...

I did like Barbary Coast, the only of the three you named that I have tried, but I usually prefer tobaccos with a less broad range of ingredients than GLP and C&D too for that matter. My advice would be to just dive in and try one of the offerings. You may find you like his style of blending or you dislike it, then your decisions on these blends will be easier in the future.

I'm with you on that- a one pound tin of the stuff was my Christmas present to myself this year.
