Something i've noticed since i started smoking...

At first, i was all about finding that ONE blend, where i could just smoke and smoke and smoke until I out a pig pile of baccy.... ok, so maybe not that grotesque, but you get the idea.

So each time i found a blend that i've said "This is it", too many consecutive smokes didn't net me that "wow" factor i had when i first discovered it. However, I found (and this is still pretty new so don't count this as gold words or anything) that if I smoke a blend i really like... i should put it away for a little bit (few weeks or so) before i come back to it again. I did that w/ BCA b/c after so many bowls in a row (a bowl several times a week or less), i felt that i was "losing it". But I just smoked my first bowl since several weeks ago and it is positively exquisite to me. Anniversary Kake is another one of those.

I dunno, maybe i honestly just haven't found that "all day" smoke yet. Thoughts and opinions on rationing out your favorite blends?

There is so many good blends out there that I would never want to limit myself to only one blend, but I have found some blends that I will always try to keep around.

Thats your "rotation", stuff you like, you rotate through 'em so you don't get sick of smoking the same thing over and over again. Every so often you discover another baccy that ya really digs, and add to the rotation. Then your cellar grows, your pipe rack overflows, and your wife screams.

Yeah... I can relate. Don't restrict yourself too much or you'll tire of that favorite blend.

Then I add in one time smokes... stuff I drag out infrequently.

I need a varitey and probably have over 50 different kinds of sticks in my humi. I couldn't pick one to smoke exclusively, it is like eating the same meal everyday.

You wouldn't eat the same thing every day unless you truly enjoyed it's taste...the same applies with smoke IMO

Very true, and I agree. However, i hear of these people smoking a certain blend bowl after bowl and not getting tired of it. Are we just all that different?

If I was forced to smoke just one tobacco day in and day out I would be out of this hobby within a week whereas my grandpa was content with his Prince Albert for over 60 years. Everyone approaches pipe smoking in their own unique way.

I'm the Oddball here on the forum... I'm a ONE BLEND smoker day in and day out. What blend? It's a bulk tobacco by Super Value called "Black n Gold".

I keep it stockpiled in bulk - around 6 pounds of it in Mason jars at the moment.

When I smoked cigarettes, it was Marlboro reds exclusively. Now with the pipe, I tend to Balkan/English/Orientals... my everyday has to have some latakia. I will go to a VaPer once a week or so as a change of pace. Maybe something like 1792 or some light aromatic... but day in day out, it is going to be 965, EMP, Balkan Sasieni...

Your Grandpa had good Taste, and nothing wrong with knowing what you like and sticking to it, sometimes keeping things simple can be best.
