A week or so ago I came across a small pressed cake of tobacco that I put together about a year ago. It was essentially a bunch small but very nice ligero leaf that I had grown as part of my 2007 tobacco crop. It had been de-veined and gone into a partial secondary fermentation when I gathered it up and pressed into the bottom of a wide mouth Mason jar.
Having recently become fascinated by blends that are constructed in layers with a variety of tobaccos and then cut this re-discovered cake sparked my imagination. Given that is was constructed from similarly cured tobacco the chance to add to it further was limited. Then I remembered that bottle of Macallan Amber Liqueur, “Single Malt Whisky Delicately Flavoured with Maple and Pecan.” So I took the tobacco cake and allowed it to soak up as much of the Amber liqueur as it wanted. I then wrapped it in parchment paper and placed it in a press for 3 days in a sunny room. The following is a photo essay of what happened next. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() How does it taste/smoke you ask? I don't know, perhaps someday I will give it a try. I know this, it looks and smells great and it was as much fun as a 7th grade science project and an Alton Brown episode rolled into one. Next time I think I will construct a cake with a more articulated variety of cured tobaccos. — Richard

Wow. I don't even smoke a pipe, but that looks absolutely delicious!
I'm pretty sure I can taste and smell the pecan from here. Beautiful.

If you haven't done so already, I thought a few well placed drops of the Macallans might add to a great bouquet some months or years down the road when you do finally unveil the lot to your favorite pipe.
Thats a nice looking aged cake Richard. Great color and I could smell it all the way down here in Valencia. Let us know how it turns out somewhere down the road...

Let me make it clear, this is not a swan song nor a retreat… more like a phoenix ![]() I look forward to creating new threads that will hopefully provide stimulating conversation and inspired thought. It is time to turn the page and see where the next chapter will take us.
