Your own personal blends?

So I have been searching and come up with a handfull, but thought this might be a good place for those that have come up with a good blend to post the recipe!

I just picked up a an ounce each of McClellands Pure Blending Perique and Latakia. I am itching to do something with them!

Post up your own home blend recipe if you have one!

Re: Your own personal blends?

The only thing I've done recently is mix 50 gms of Carter Hall with 50gms of that foul Blue Note that Altadis sent me. Interestingly, the extra burley toned down the synthetic taste of the Blue Note to the point where the concoction is smokable, if not overly tasty.

I had some latakia in the past and mixed it 25% to 75% MacBaren's Virginia #1. It was odd. It wasn't a "blend" per se - it was more like having two distinct tastes in your mouth. Sort of like eating peanut butter and baloney at the same time.

I have some blending perique at home and am going to try some things with it shortly. First up is blending just a touch with some Rattrays Black Virginia. If you've ever smoked BV, you'll know it's a decent tasting, if pretty mono-dimensional stoved virginia. The perique might just spice it up! Or it might destroy it. Just remember when you blend, Big D... small batches, small batches!

If you are blending, you need to give it some heat or time or both to allow the flavors to blend.

Re: Your own personal blends?

i've always wanted to blend a Va/Per with 5 Parts Lemon Virginia, 5 Parts Red Virginia, 3 parts Fire Cured Malawi, 3 parts Perique (pressed into flakes).
probably taste like spit... basically want a sweet n tangy base of VAs, with equal sprinkles of African fire cured leaf and Perique for some spice and power.

Re: Your own personal blends?

i've added small amounts to PA Choice to notch up the body a bit:
85% PA Choice
5% Mac B's Golden Xtra
5% cigar leaf (i used nicaraguan)
5% GH sliced brown twist

i also mixed another burley:
80g PA Choice
28g LJ Heart Burley
6g Mac B's golden xtra
3g nicaraguan cigar leaf
3g cuban cigar leaf
3g GH sliced brown twist
3g 5 Bros.
3g perique

technically what i've done is more mixing than blending. blending to me is using single variety leafs to create something new. i've just combined already existing blends (takes much less knowledge & talent!)

A 50/50 mix of CH and any of several Aero's make for a nice smoke, and with the added bonus of my Wife liking the aroma = Smoking inside.

Re: Your own personal blends?

My personal favourite is 2/3 bulk virginia, 1/3 bulk turkish, mixed right before smoking. Just rocks.

Nah. Most of the time I seem to get more interesting results with "fresh" blends. There's more change in flavour between puffs. Allowing flavours to marry just unifies the stuff more, making it more consistent between puffs which is not always a good thing.

That bulk turkish my local tobbacco shop is selling is perfect example: it's quite dull stuff to smoke by itself, but it seems to enhance almost anything if I add it a little and smoke it right away. Allowing things to marry, and I either get it's dull original taste on top of the other tobacco - or if added little enough, it does not taste at all after the marrying.
