I really like GLP Haddo's Delight. Even though it's a VaPer, it's not a typical one. It's not for everybody...but it's got a great flavour and I've got my favourite pipe (Peterson Silver Spigot) dedicatd to it.

You can't go wrong with SG's St James Flake...but of course, it's a flake.

I buy mostly bulk blends. So I would suggest either Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake or McClelland Bulk No.2015 Virginia Flake. Can't beat'em for the price.

Re: Va/Per suggestion

i just tried escudo.. i really like it - i found it slightly limited to certain flavors the first time i tried it - then like the silly novice i am - really gave my pipes a thorough cleaning and tried it again - i found so much more complexity.. i think i'm beginning to see how ghosts can haunt your pipe..
i think the first time i tried it i was thinking oh just another virginia that everyone raves about.. the second time i think i saw the action between the perique and the virginia.. and it was not at all boring..

a fine choice!

you'll probably find that escudo is a good deal stronger and bigger tasting than scottish cake. where escudo is regarded by many (including me) as THE standard va-per, scottish cake contains only a smidgen perique (if any at all!), but they're both delightfull blends.

Re: Va/Per suggestion

Escudo and Scottish Cake..............2 of my favorites!! You won't be disappointed!

PM me if you want any other suggestions. There are several choices from pipesandcigars.com in their Hearth & Home series (http://pipesandcigars.com/ruouhobl.html). As you can tell by my showdown, I like them very much. You also might want to try Low Country's Waccamaw (http://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/...oduct_id=32143). It's available on smokingpipes.com. It is made for them specifically by Cornell & Diehl. It is a VaPer but they also add Izmir leaf which is another spice tobacco that is similar to Perique. The combination is great!!

Re: Va/Per suggestion

I never got around to trying Escudo when venturing into the VaPer blends. My local B&M had some problems getting it in and my online e-tailer did not have it in stock.

Might be time to start searching for some again.

Re: Va/Per suggestion

Although I´m quite new to pipe smoking I have to second the recommendation on McConnells Scottish Cake.
