Mixing tobaccos and pipes -

Is it important not to smoke aromatic and non-aromatic tobacco from the same pipe? Or does it matter? Do you have separate pipes?

Same rules for briar and cob?

I think a quick search on this one might help progess the search of information you're looking for.

Or so I've heard.

Thanks, I've seen varying opinions. I only have a handful of briars and have never smoked an aromatic. I was thinking of giving one a try but wasn't sure if I should buy a separate pipe for a few bowls. Maybe I'll try out a cob.

Thanks again.

I've heard you shouldn't mix the two. I think if you want to try aromatics, go get a $5 cob.

Re: Mixing tobaccos and pipes -

I don't do aromatics very much so I don't usually run into this problem.

Re: Mixing tobaccos and pipes -

I smoke mainly briars, so I won't speak to the other types of pipes, but I think it's a terrible idea to smoke aromatic and non-aromatic tobaccos out of the same pipe. The flavors will meld in what is certainly a disharmonious way.

Re: Mixing tobaccos and pipes -

Any tobacco will leave some of the flavor in the pipe.

Re: Mixing tobaccos and pipes -

IMHO this "different pipe" thing is mostly - mostly - hype. Talked to several long time pipe smokers who told me to ignore this advise. I believe with a little whiskey or some other booze, you can clean/sweeten a pipe well enough to never notice any real difference. I should add that I have not been at this a long time. So talk to some of the elders guys down at your B&M. They know what the score is.
