[SIZE="5"]R[/SIZE]ecently my friend Joe AKA Mad Hatter sent an ominous PM informing me that he was going to partake in some much needed but serious surgery.

The PM concluded with these words, "I hope you don't mind I sent you a little something just in case I wouldn't have the opportunity in the future."

Needless to say Joe is recovering well but his words spoke volumes to my heart. Within a few days a package arrived and to my surprise as I opened it I realized that Joe had selected and gifted me one of the most beautiful pipes I had every held, a Fikri Baki Meerschaum.

It was if I had been knighted, it still feels like that.

When I looked at the return address on the box I saw that it had been shipped directly from the maker so I went to the site find out more about it. As I considered taking my own photos I hesitated wondering how I could do any better than the beautiful images on the web site.

The pipe is called Elephant Ears but Joe and I both agree that the name is not quite suitable. I must admit that I am not a big Star Trek fan but the shape of the pipe reminded me of Quark's head, the Ferengi bartender. This pipe definetly has more character than a Ferengi.

Without further adieu here are my photos of this most generous and heartfelt gift from Joe.

I'm not going to tell you what to smoke in it (figuring that out is equally as thrilling as having it), but I will tell you that that's got to be the nicest need that I've seen I think. Congrats.

Yep you guys all got it. Richard is an excellent example of a fine BOTL. When I turned to him for advice and guidance on my personal issues he didn't know me from Adam but that didn't stop his compassion or caring. Like other members who offered advice and support in a time of need, he showed what an upstanding person he really is. A few items and some words of wisdom he sent my way were of great inspiration and influence and will continue to be so.

Richard I hope that Baki lives up to its reputation and you get many hours of enjoyment from it. Thanks to all the rest of you for your kind words. Richard really is a well-deserving brother of the leaf.
