Using the same pipe for Burleys and Virginias?

I recently bought my first decent briar pipe and with it I got two samples of pipe tobacco; a Burley and a Virginia. Now I know your not supposed to use the same pipe for aromatics and non-aromatics, but what about using the same pipe Virginias and Burleys?

Re: Using the same pipe for Burleys and Virginias?

I smoke everything but aero's in my pipe rotation. The few aero's I will smoke I use my basket or 2nd's pipes......

In my opinion you can smoke all your tobacco in one pipe...I really don't think you need to rotate like some will say....My proof is simple..

My Grandfather smoked pipes for as long as I can remember...and he only had two pipes..........

When I think back to when I was a kid most of the guys I knew only smoked a couple of pipes...

Just remember to clean the pipe after each use and yuo will be ok

Greetings. If that is a picture of your pipe - congrats on a wonderful purchase! Not sure how to answer your question. I only have one pipe right now and put everything through it.

You might be surprised...some of my best smoking pipes..and the one's I smoke the most are not the most expensive....

When I buy a pipe before I even purchase it I run a pipe cleaner through it...this will tell me a lot about the quality....

I have a no name pipe that was made in France...it is a great smoker..Paid 20 bucks for it...

I'm not complaining. This one was only $28 from frenchyspipes.com (Ehrlich Author) and it smokes and looks great. Just a few fills but that doesn't bother me.

Back on topic: So its safe to use the same pipe for both burleys and viriginias (and other types of non aromatics too)?

I think you should go ahead and smoke them both out of the one pipe and not worry about it. I confine my aromatics to one Ben Wade, and smoke anything else out of my other two without regard to what was in there last. Heck, I've smoked more than 3-4 blends out of one pipe in the same day. Yes, I did let it rest after that.

It's not un-safe...it's just that I wouldn't mix aromatics and non-aromatics in the same pipe...I favor the english style non-aromatics so I don't want my pipes that I use for these gunked up and smelling of or tasting of flavorings...

Re: Using the same pipe for Burleys and Virginias?

The only problem with using the same pipe for both would be that the Burley residue might tend to mask the flavors of many Virginias. (which tend to be much more subtle) Also, most Burleys are flavored which makes them an Aromatic.
