MacBaren Tobacco????

Hey everyone,
I was looking at my B&M's website and was intrigued by macbaren, I normally smoke English, Va/Per blends and not burley predominant blends.
I was wondering what any of you pipe smokers out there thought of MacB blends, I was particular drawn to navy flake, Golden ambrosia and Scottish blend.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,
Jake

I have tried several of MacBaren's blends. They sometimes tend to burn a little hot (tongue bite), but overall they're not bad. MacB does sometimes get a little heavy on their flavorings, though. I like Navy Flake a good deal, and probably Virginia No. 1 as well. The others have not made it into my regular rotation.

If you can age them for a few years they do really well... over all pretty great stuff! The dark roll cake is awesome!

Yeah, what he said, except I wouldn't put the word "Sometimes" in there. Nice flavour on their tobaccos, but everything in that brand I've bought has either been traded or given away.

I would say Savinelli, Peterson or Stanwell, and please note these are my own personal "Best bang for the buck". I have no affiliation with either.

Pipes that many stare down their beaks at are Dr. Grabow and Kaywoodie. Don't let anyone tel you they're crapola pipes, 'cause they're not. Do they look as good as a Dunhill or a Rad Davis?? hell no, but they're great smokers.

Check out www.smokingpipes.com for the prices on these three brands, and a whole bunch of other brands too (some where the prices will make you go poppy-eyed). If $150 - $200 is in your price range, check out Randy Wiley pipes. While more expensive than the ones I list above, when you compare price & quality, they may very well be the best deal out there.

Another great site is www.frenchyspipes.com

Again, I have no affiliation with either, just 2 great places I know of, and there are many many more out there.

Newfie speaks the truth (as if anyone needs my opinion...). Very good advice. I will second and vouch for Stanwell and Savinelli, as well as both the websites he mentions. Stanwells are probably the best machine-made (mass produced) pipes on the planet in terms of value for the cost. Savinelli is right there, as well. Savinelli makes everything from $30-40 pipes up to special grade handmades into many hundreds of dollars.

I thought that Navy Flake was a bit bland for my tastes. A bunch of people love it though!! My latest love is Haddo's Delight by GL Pease.

I know a couple people that love the Navy Flake. A few of my favorites are Solanie Flake (gold tin, vaperique) and Frybourg and Treyer Special Brown flake.

Very nice.
