Smoked my first bowl today...

Just got a Peterson St. Paddy's Day pipe and filled it with some Dunhill Royal Yacht that I also got at the same time down at the local shop.I did pay a bit more than internet prices, but I wanted to really look at the pipe I was going to get. It's beautiful!Other than the fact that I don't think I packed it tight enough,it smoked well.A nice cool burn,no flaming tongue, and pretty decent complexity to the tobaccy....smelled good, too.
Can't wait to fire it up again tomorrow!
This is what I get for lurking around here the last week and reading the posts here.Y'all got me intrigued and looky what happened.
Just what I need...another "hobby" to occupy my time and money...

Anyway, time for a stupid question...Is the Dunhill RY considered an aromatic? Will I be able to smoke some of my other Dunhill blends(Mixture 965,Early morning..) in there or not?I also have some penzace coming, but I'm sure that is an aromatic,no?So,Ifigure I'll wait 'til my other pipe comes before I try that...
Thanks,guys!

So here is the stupid answer for which I provide no warranty.

The Royal Yacht is an aromatic. Penzance is not. Don't feel like you need a special pipe for each blend, especially ones that have relatively mild flavoring added. If you smoked a strong cherry flavored tobacco then I think you'd have a problem.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first experience. I'm a huge fan of Peterson pipes and a Saint Patrick's day pipe was the first one I ever bought.

The Royal Yacht has flavoring but, at this point at least, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Thanks,guys!
965, EMP and Penznace are all English blends of varying (latakia) intensity. If I have the option, I'd put them all in the same one or two pipes and leave the aromatics to their own devices, but I don't think that a bowl here or there is really gonna leave a huge signature.

And props on the Pete.

Congrats on the first bowl, glad you enjoyed it. You have a great list of tobaccos to start with.

Re: Smoked my first bowl today...

that dunhill royal yacht is a love-it-hate-it kinda tobacco. i bought a tin, and dont like it much. i am forcing myself to smoke it, maybe it'll grow on me. as others have said, it is an aromatic, although not much topping has been added.

Re: Smoked my first bowl today...

Thanks,guys.

Just did a search in tobaccoreviews.com and it seems the Dunhill EMP and the RY are "related in blends",so I'll give the EMP a try tomorrow morning and not worry too much about messing up my beautiful new pipe

Re: Smoked my first bowl today...

Greetings and congrats on your purchase. I really enjoy my Peterson as well. I also picked up a tin of the Dunhill Royal Yacht recently and really enjoyed the first bowl.

Re: Smoked my first bowl today...

The "hate it's" of the love it or hate it crowd claim RY will so imprint a pipe you can't ever get the taste out. I have never found that to be true for me.
I think the "super-tastes" would be the ones that would have the problem. There are actually people that have way more taste buds than most of us. All taste sensations are amplified for them.
