Meerschaum Pipes

Do you have to rotate Meerschaum pipes like you do a wooden pipe? In other words, can you smoke a meerschaum pipe as frequently as you would like without fear of damaging the pipe?

Re: Meerschaum Pipes

Yes, you can smoke it more frequently than a briar pipe.

Just clean it very well afterwords.

And you can mix tobacco's in it, between aromatic and non-aromatic, with no detrimental effects as you would find with a briar...

Re: Meerschaum Pipes - EBay Buy

Ready 2 buy this Meershaum pipe that i have been eyeballin' the last little while. Pretty cheap, most likely particle packed rather than solid block, maybe wont last that long, could end up breaking on me. Lookin' for some opinions/feedback on this item. Thanks. Peace.

Re: Meerschaum Pipes

It's a nice one but you have to understand this:

5" long, 1.25" wide,
1.50"-1.75" tall with a bowl depth of 1"-1 1/4"

I have one that's similar...it's very small...good for about a 15 minute smoke which is why I bought one...now I'm looking for a full-sized one, but can't decide on what kind of carving I want...

Thanks for the input Millow and Neuromancer. This pipe suits me perfectly, i need something thats good for a 10-15 minute smoke. Cigars are great i usually smoke torpedos but sometimes i don't have the 45 minutes to an hour to finish it. Plus i'm really looking forward to sampling the large variety of pipe tobacco thats available. Something tells me i'm really going to like pipe smoking, if that happens i'm going to buy a full sized pipe.

Re: Meerschaum Pipes

So you're going to make your first pipe (assumed) a meershaum? Not bad for 13 bucks! B^)

I'm actually not a huge fan of meershaum, I really like Clay (and even briar, for that matter) much better, but I'll venture to say you're going to love it.

Talking Re: Meerschaum Pipes - my first pipe smoke

Got my pipe that i won from my Ebay bid today in the mail, i removed the pipe from packaging and spent the next 5-10 minutes admiring it (see last 5 posts above). I ran over to the local conveiniece store to get some tobacco, the selection was pretty slim, so i went for the Mac Baren Plumcake. Got home, opened up the tobacco pouch and took a whiff, smelled good; nice, rich aroma . Rubbed a little tobacco then gravity filled the bowl, haven't bought a tamper so i used my pinkie finger to gently tamper, took me 3 matches to light the sucker up due to my newbie inexperience. Kicked back on lawn chair and savored the moment; good plumes of smoke, some pretty mild flavour, a bit of tongue bite, in the end finished 2 bowls. Tomorrow i goin' to the local B&M to buy a tamper, pipe cleaners and some pipe tobacco with a bit more nic kick and flavour; maybe some aromatics. All in all, i enjoyed my very first pipe experience.

I used to have only briar and a couple of clays, but after my first meer about 4 years ago I switched. I think the tobacco even tastes better in a meer.

But today I saw a beautiful Big Ben at my tobacconist's shop and bought it, so I guess I will never get all the way away from briar's.

I think that they are all good from time-to-time, as long as you enjoy them.

Happy puffing!
