newbie question on mixing tobacoos

Is it ok to mix aromatic tobacoo and tabacoo that isnt aromatic together in the same pipe (not at the same time), I hope this isnt a dump question but some of the tobacoo I bought doesnt have that sweet smell to it and it seems as though if I was to use the same pipe for both it would ruin the experience of each other . Do pipe smokers buy pipes for both kinds of tabacoo and then dedicate them to one or the other ?
Thanks for the help

Re: newbie question on mixing tobacoos

It is best if you choose to smoke both aromatics (me myself prefer non aromatics) and non, it is important to smoke from different pipes, becasue the flavorings and smells kinda get permanently ingrained in the pipe and it will skew the flavours of your nateural tobaccos.
Hope this helps

I save my cheaper pipes for the Aromatic blends. Even better to have a cob or two on hand for a first smoke. If it turns out to be bad news, you can throw out a cob no harm done.

Re: newbie question on mixing tobacoos

While I think it's better to smoke blends in different pipes, it's probably safe to say that if you smoke blend X consistantly in the same pipe it can leave traces of itself in that pipe. Infrequent "affairs" and / or thorough cleanings in between might leave an impact, but it probably won't be all that noticable.... with most tobaccos.

Put another way... if you smoke Bobs Chocolate Flake on Saturday in your Hans Ogleminger Gatsby Freehand, CLEAN IT WELL with an alcohol based solvent, and let it dry out, you're probably safe to smoke 965 on Wednesday without a huge intrusion or the pipe spirits wrecking havoc on your world or the pipe community banishing you for your unfaithful ways.

Don't sweat it. There are a few tobaccos that can taint a pipe with one or two smokes, (Condor seems to do that from what I've read), but if one or two pipes is what you've got, smoke it and clean it.

And it's OK to like aromatics. And I agree with Fitz... cobs are really a Godsend if you want to try something new or different.

Thanks guys for the help
My other question being what type of tobacco is non aromatic ? It seems that the shops Ive walked into push me to buy these tobacoos that smell great but taste like . Im looking for something thats more so taste like a good cigar not smell great and smoke like crap .

Im really interested in buying tins but at the price for what you get Im a little worried about buying the wrong ones ,any suggestions on good tasting tin tobacco, my cigar preferrence lean toward med full
thanks again

This link has examples of the various "styles" of pipe tobacco, and can give you an idea of what blends are considered aromatic and what to ask for at your B&M. It seems that the shops Ive walked into push me to buy these tobacoos that smell great but taste like . Im looking for something thats more so taste like a good cigar not smell great and smoke like crap. IMHO, that's kinda like saying "I love German food, so I'm looking for some Thai dishes that tastes like that". While there are some pipe tobaccos that incorporate cigar tobacco, (GLP Robusto comes to pre-caffinated mind), to a large extent, it's comparing apples to oranges. Even within styles, there can be subtle, (or not so subtle) differences in flavors or strengths. Penzance, Nightcap and London Mixture are decent examples... Penzance has a HUGE latakia hit... Nightcap has a bit of Perique in it, and LM is a basic english blend, yet they're all examples of the English style. A strategy you may want to consider is using Tobacco Reviews, or the reviews in this forum, to identify the styles of tobaco you find you like, and to maybe find a few more within that particular style.

Thanks again. The popular approach seems to be that new pipe smokers who come from a cigar background gravitate toward blends containing latakia... the English and Balkan blends, while those with a cigarette background head for the VAs, and non-tobacco users go for the aros. Might just be my own observation. A recommendation I can make, (since it's what I did on my first venture), is to ask your tobacconsita for an ounce of one of their english or balkan blends, an ounce of their virginia blends, and maybe an ounce of something cavendish or burley based just to get a frame of reference for the various styles out there. You won't be out much if you find you don't fancy a particular style, and from there you can branch out to the various blends within the styles you find you prefer. There are also a few places that offer samplers... might be worth investigating.

Tobacco preference is the ultimate subjective exercise. Even with the same tobaccos, there's just some days when stuff you'll usually love just doesn't hit the right notes for ya. It's nice to have a little variety.

HTH.

And it's OK to like aromatic pipe tobacco. The trick is getting through the crappy ones to find one you like!
