Wax Sealing Mason Jars Question

Okay,

A buddy of mine a while ago suggested that I wax seal my cellared mason jars that I don't plan on opening for a long, long time as kind of a "just in case" measure.

Haven't done it yet but I'm considering it. My question is, if I do this then how do I mark what's in the jars? Right now I have a sticker on the top that I know will not show through the wax and all of the sides of the jar have raised writing (Bell jars) and I think that the bottom has something on it as well.

Ideas? Opening the jars to stick a piece of paper in with writing on it is out of the question.

Just write on the outside of it with a marker. If you want to take the writing off use rubbing alcohol on a rag.

I've used the FOREVER markers...damn! Now the little 'return address' type stickers. The pkg is the same size of legal paper, from Office Max, etc...

Yeah, most of the people that I have asked have told me that this is overkill. I don't think that I am going to end up doing it.

Thanks everyone.

The only time I've seen the wax used was for sealing jams and jellies. There was no lid or band on the jar, just wax poured over the contents to the top of the jar.

I can about 180 jars of salsa annually and I've NEVER had a problem as long as the jar "pops" as it seals. If you process them right, they will pop and seal tightly - air tight - as they cool.
