Virginia suggestions
I was sent a sample of Red Ribbon" from a member here and I really liked it. I assumed from the sweetness that it was an aromatic of some kind but tobaccoreviews said it was a straight virginia. After reading several reviews of other virginias I understand that this sweetness is a trait of virgina tobaccos.
What are some other virginias do you guys think I should look into? Steve |

Re: Virginia suggestions
If you are new to VAs, I recommend the Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake. It's tasty and forgiving. VAs, when young (i.e. not aged a gazillion years) tend to burn "hot" and could nip yer tongue, especially if you've never handled a VA before. SG FVF is really good on its own merits, and it will never nip at ya.

Re: Virginia suggestions
Univ. Flake is not a pure virginia. It contains some burley, kentucky, other leafs and a blueberrish topping.
I´m still to experience some of the following, but these are the most appraised: SG's Full Virginia Flake Rattray's Old Gowrie Rattray's Marlin Flake Rattray's Hal' O the Wind |

Re: Virginia suggestions
if you like McCranies Red Ribbon, then you'll like McClellands Bulk #5100.
TobaccoReviews.com: Blend Detail: McClelland - Bulk No.5100 Red Cake http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_...LPHA=R&TID=810 Red Ribbon is made by McClellands for McCranies. They are almost identical to me. if you like sweet VAs, i'd also suggest Rattrays Hal O' th Wynd or Marlin Flake, with HOtW ranked higher due to the tobacco cut you were looking for.

Re: Virginia suggestions
I gotta find an excuse to spend more money on baccy so i can pick me up some more of that stuff, i would really like to age it.
As far as other Virginias i'd recommend (some of which you may already have or tried): - Anniversary Kake (highly recommend) - Stonehaven - Christmas Cheer 2008 (take about half of can out for smoking, and leave rest for aging) - Folded Flake - Marlin Flake - Butera's Royal Vintage Matured Ribbon (i like this one alot) Let me know if there's anything else you want to try, link to cellar is in my sig

Re: Virginia suggestions
Esoterica Stonehaven is a Burley blend not a straight VA, a great one at that.

Re: Virginia suggestions
I'd highly recommend aging that Anni Kake. I just bought 4 oz of it about a month ago and split the brick in half --> half to smoke now and half to age. Get yourself a Ball jar w/ a seal and sucker those chunks up.
PS, i also let my "aging portion" dry out a little too because it comes pretty moist. Bad idea?

Re: Virginia suggestions
Anniversary Kake has some Perique in it as well. You may note a peppery taste and aroma.
I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Samuel Gawith's Best Brown Flake yet.
