Question Zippo Question

What's the deal with Zippo these days. Years ago I had a couple that took fluid which you soaked into a cotton filling. Is there a new system? I hear zippo is using butane now...is it a injected into a vaperlock chamber like my Corona? I'm looking for a second lighter on the cheap, and am considering a zippo pipe lighter. Thanks for the replies.

Re: Zippo Question

I bought a Zippo last month. It works the same as always. Dunno about the butane thing but you can buy butane inserts to convert your Zippo to a butane lighter. They seem to have mixed reviews.

Re: Zippo Question

I think you're talking about the Zippo Blu introduced a year or so ago. It's a butane lighter that is an addition to the Zippo line, not a replacement for the conventional Zippo lighters. You can see it here: http://www.zippo.com/Products/Zippo_...rs.aspx?bhcp=1
I have one and don't think much of it. No real problems, it's just kind of flimsy and the striking operation doesn't seem well suited to butane. I've also read that Zippo's reformulated its conventional lighter fluid to reduce or nearly eliminate the naptha smell, though I cannot vouch for that myself. Cigar smokers who want a conventional Zippo usually replace the guts with a Blazer Z-Plus insert, which is a single-jet butane lighter that costs about $10 and is a perfect fit.

Re: Zippo Question

as far as I'm aware, zippo don't make the inserts for gas, but others do...I have seen these adapters, they go for about $5
