Am i a bore?
First off..ive only been smoking a pipe for about a year now and truly love the sense of relaxation it brings to me,my question though is this....
When i first walked into the local tobacconists i just picked at will without a clue what i was getting Sam Gawiths Squadron Leader (wow! like the tin got to get it) and Chocolate Flake (i got a sweet tooth). And thats it! for about a year now thats all i have smoked ,i feel i dont need to explore any further different tobaccos ,just seems to me nothing could compete with these two. So! am i a pipe bore? Is there anybody on here what just sticks to one or two blends and thats it? Or will my taste buds change and start being more adventurous. First post by the way ,please go gentle |

Re: Am i a bore?
My thought is that while you may love those two fine blends if you haven't explored other tobaccos you just may not have found the best fit for you. I know you said your loving them and don't think anything else can compare but what if there are more that are even better suited to you.
I love the frog morton line and was thinking like you that maybe that was all I needed but then was at a meet up and tried a blend called alans inspiration from chief catoonah and it blew my mind. It by far is the best baccy I have ever had but I won't stop trying more. All this being said I have been smoking pipes less time than you but figured I would throw my 2 cents in anyway.

Re: Am i a bore?
There's something comforting about having one or two blends in your rotation to the exclusion of all else. When you come home from a hard days work and can stand no more "excitement", it's nice to sit down and know that your pipe is going to deliver for you.
On the other hand, I could no sooner smoke one or two blends only anymore than I could eat the same two foods meal after meal. Trying new blends keeps the fun in pipesmoking for me. I currently have 8 or 9 bulk blends I smoke regularly, along with 5 or so tins. Plus I'm always cracking a new tin or two. I don't ever expect to find one or two that I could stick with! What would I give up... Escudo? Hal O' The Wynd? McClellands St James or Navy Cavendish? Squadron Leader??!!?? It would be tooooooooo difficult to pick just one or two. ![]() |

Re: Am i a bore?
My first thought would be why worrie about it. The pipe is about relaxaion. Not about worry as to what blend it is. Just realx and enjoy. It is one of the few things left that can just be what it is. You need not to make more of it that you want to. That is the wonderfull thing of it.

If what you are smoking completely satisfies you, then keep smoking it! I know a guy who proudly claims that he's been smoking his pipe for 30 years! When I got interested in pipe smoking, I asked him what kind of tobacco I should get, since after 30 years, surely he's tried them all! His response? Captain Black. It's all he smokes. I almost laughed out loud. (nothing agains Cap'n smokers here.) The point is, after 30 years, this is what he enjoys smoking, so that's what he smokes. I'm sure there will come a time when you want to try something different. When it comes, try it. If this satisfies you, even better! You're actually in a safe spot right now. Once you start trying new blends, well, just do a search for the "slope", and you'll soon see. You'll have to buy a bigger place to live so you can store all that new baccy! Welcome to the board, good to have you. When it's time, there are many here who will gladly send you a sampler of different blends. Just ask! WWhermit ![]()

Re: Am i a bore?
You could do a lot worse then Squadron Leader and Chocolate Flake.

I think you're a lucky guy. I wish I only ever wanted to smoke the giant $14.00 tub of Prince Albert but, sadly, I am born to wander.

Re: Am i a bore?
I'm a ONE BLEND smoker. I've gone thru a few different ones since i took up the pipe in 1981, but only a few. At first it was Captain Black gold for a year or so. Then it was Norse Gold from the Tinder Box for quite a few years. Then it was Burley Lite from the Tinder Box also. Now I've discovered "Black n Gold" by SuperValue and for the past 2 years that's all I've smoked and I've had no desire to try anything else. I've stockpiled about 5 or 6 pounds of Black n Gold in Mason jars and I'm i heaven.
You're not boring. You just know what you like and are content! Think about how much money it saves you not having 40 different blends and also the dilemma as to WHICH ONE to smoke? I'd find that stressful myself, lol. Every day I know what my pipe will deliver and I look forward to it like few things in life.

When I saw the original post i just KNEW ^^^Hank Reardon^^^ would chime in here!!
I would not think boring. Smoke what you like, etc. Hell, Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch.

Re: Am i a bore?
You should smoke what you like. But dont be afraid to mix things up. Kind of like movies or books, the next one could be a new favorite. You could go to tobacco review and look for the tobacco that you are loving.Find a review that is dead-on, and look for that guys other reviews. If you have similar tastes, you could start with is other favorites.
