Recycle ash to top off next bowl?

Probably a stupid/wacky/weird question, but I can't help wondering...

Has anyone tried sprinkling some of the ash from a finished bowl on to the top of a new bowl? Same 'baccy in both bowls. New bowl would have room for a thin layer of ash to be sprinkled on top.

Would that reduce the need for false lights?

Never heard of such a thing. To me this would be sort of yucky. At least I have a "mental block" in regards to that sort of thing.

Fill your pipe and light it fresh is my advice. You'll have ash within seconds that you can tamp and after awhile you'll get the hang of it.

That's what I've been doing. I'm just curious if the other would work. I suppose I could try it and see myself

Please, donīt take it as a pun... just my straight answer.

Thanks, that makes sense. i was just thinking about how the ash would insulate the tobacco after it was lit, like ash over embers on a bonfire.

In fact yes it would act as a barrier to good combustion. NO on the ash on top of a fresh bowl!

It wouldn't be old ash, it would be ash from a just finished bowl. Don;t worry though, it was just idle curiosity

Good suggestion! Easier said than done though. I over-analyze everything.

Although I wouldn't sprinkle ash on a fresh bowl , I will say I did like your question.

Be less inventive, just stick with what is known to work.

Takes more heat which = bad. Not to mention ash never really tasted all that great to me. How did you even come up with that?

Seems like my pipe stays lit longer after a nice layer of ash is formed on top through the false light process. I just wondered if it were possible to skip that first step.
