Escudo went down in price!

I was looking to make another order at pipesandcigars for cellaring. They have Escudo for about 7.50/tin. It was 10.00 a tin, so I scarfed some of that, some Penzance, and 8oz of Anni Kake.

Here's the pr0n.

Wish I had known that. I just bought 5 tins in an order from another site, along with a pound and half of PS Twist Flake.

I havent really developed a tase for VaPers. I'm sure one day I'll light one up, such as escudo, and fall in love, but for now I'm stuck on Va's and English/orientals and cant get away from them.

Funny that you mention this. I had never smoked a VaPer when I fired up my first bowl of Escudo way back in nineteen hundred and eighty-nine. I smoked a lot of straight virginias... McClellands #22 and 24 (ok, it has a pinch of oriental but no perique), Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd and Old Gowrie, etc etc. I cracked a tin of Escudo and fired it up, not even realizing it was a VaPer.

Tobacco has all gone downhill since then or, at least, it hasn't gotten any better. It was love at first puff.

Re: Escudo went down in price!

I'm the same way. The first VaPer i smoked was Fillmore and it tasted too much like beef jerky to me. I wasn't all about that pepper taste very much. Anniversary Kake i absolutely loved from the start but i could barely detect the Perique. I lit up a disc of Escudo and i dunno, it just had a "sophisticated" taste to it. It definitely has that pepper but the way it presents itself is in a very smooth and "you know this is quality stuff" manner. Almost like you're smoking pure nostalgia. Dunno if that made any sense to anyone else but me.

Either way, don't shut yourself off to VaPers until you've tried Escudo. I'd recommend Anniversary Kake first (as it is much more Virginia heavy to me, and almost has an aromatic chocolate quality --> not to be confused w/ an aromatic though) then when you're all out of Kake, throw in some Escudo

Mild, medium, full?

Thanks!

Re: Escudo went down in price!

I'd say Medium. It's a sweet and tangy Va. The Perique is not overpowering and adds a little spiciness, but does kick in late in the bowl... and no bite!

The reason I ask is because I am looking for a FULL-BODIED smoke that is peppery and/or spicy!

Any suggestions?

Re: Escudo went down in price!

Have you tried Filmore? That's the one that comes to mind for a Va/Per.

Re: Escudo went down in price!

Never have. None of the shops in my area have it.
