Re: Pipe and Wine

i have yet to enjoy wine and pipe. that being said, im a college student. I drink 4 dollar bottles of wine. I drink 'real' wine (as opposed to that sugary stuff: boones farm and the like). it tends to overpower everything.

I think that they go better than wine and cigars, a pairing which is always disastrous. Personally, I think the best tobaccos for dry wine are Orientals--easy on the Virginia. It's an old rule in the wine and food pairing fascist brotherhood that the tobacco cannot be sweeter than the wine. Sweet, fortified wines, like Tawny Port or Madeira, are more versatile and can stand up to the sweeter flavors of Virginias and Vapers.

I would avoid most aromatics with wine. One star at a meal, as they say.

Re: Pipe and Wine

I prefer pipes with a good scotch. To me, wine has too much flavour and will overpower the subtle nuances of pipe tobacco.

My "go-to" drink of choice with my pipe is Diet Coke :-)

I don't know about the pipe. But in my experiences, franzia = bad time in general.

So have y'all been drinking wine w/ the pipe all this time or did someone intrigue you into trying it?

Re: Pipe and Wine

For my liver, by far the best combo is pipe + book + beer. Tonght it's Star of the East Flake + book + Black Butte Porter.

But I can see Franzia. Hey, what about Night Train with Night Train?

Re: Pipe and Wine

never ever try franzia. 5L in, im considering cutting of my tongue.

and i drink wine all the time, provided im by my lonesome. drinking liqour or beer by one's self is a problem: wine is classy.

night train as in the cockburn song? cause i dont drink to bruce cockburn anymore. thats not good for me.

Lightbulb Re: Pipe and Wine

Maybe someone can set up a nice big tasting event.

These wines: BumWine.com

And a bunch of Codger Burleys and Codger Burley clones: Prince Albert, Carter Hall, Granger, Half and Half, Old Joe Krantz, Haunted Bookshop...

Could help us understand the past a little better.
