I must admit that I am not a member of the Pipe Smoking Brotherhood. I kind of have my hands full with cigars right now.

Thanks for sharing. I found it an interesting read as a young pipe smoker (started two years ago, I am 24 now).

Re: Pipe Smoking Article

Thanks for sharing that, good to see pipe smoking is on the rise. I remember pipes were popular when I was a kid in the 60's n 70's before the communists started their hysterical attacks on smoking.

oh, you mean pipe smoking commies like stalin, or just the pipesmoking danish commie author hans scherfig? or perhaps just all those other chain smoking danish commies (and their comrades world wide) whom i used to know back in the 80'ies?

come off it, man; hitler was anti-smoking, and a lot of conservatives all over the place are, too. it's got next-to-nothing to do with political point of view, really. unless, of course, one sees it as a libertarianist would, and regards antismoking per se as communism (and regards all other political standpoints as communism - a curious parallel to anarchists regarding all others as fascists). that's fair enough, i guess, albeit somewhat bordering on the absurd.

Re: Pipe Smoking Article

pretty cool article... yeah pipe smoking may not be great for your mouth but it beats inhaling any day of the week... and it's affordable... and I like the fact that technique and tradition is involved... and the various blends... it's pretty much the best way to enjoy tobacco and you don't need to be 70 years old to figure that out.

Re: Pipe Smoking Article

I think I got my first briar when I was twenty. I've yet to convert any friends, but I get compliments from them - though my family thinks I'll die of cancer about five minutes after I light up.

I guess he made a mistake, and should have said "fascist", instead of communist. Because, as you say, Hitler was anti-smoking. And Hitler was a fascist. OK, National Socialist. Potato, potahto. In the same vein, almost all of the anti "anything" legislation in the U.S for the last 50 years has come from the "Progressive" side of the aisle. Surprisingly, this is the same side that loves to call people on the more Conservative side of the political spectrum "fascist" at almost ever turn.
A quick study of the Progressive movement in the U.S. reveals that they held fascism, and even National Socialism for that matter, in high regard up to, and through, the 1930's. They attempted, through the policies of Woodrow Wilson, and later F.D.R., to implement progressive, or even blatantly fascist, reforms in the U.S.
But wait. I'm sorry...I forgot.. this IS a pipe and cigar forum, isn't it? What were we talking about?

Re: Pipe Smoking Article

Interesting, I read the article and couldn't find much relating it to political content (which is really not something we want to debate on a cigar forum), other than a sentence mentioning that "a number of puffers will unite to protest tobacco taxes and smoking bans".

I enjoyed the article whose main idea was that depite the possible harmfull effects of pipe smoking, more and more young people are taking up the pipe. The perception of a pipe smoker is "culturally attractive" to some and it's a substitute for the use of cigarettes . Seems like that's a step in the right direction.

Thanks for posting it!
