what's your experience been like w/ 1792?

I know there's plenty of review on TR, but i wanna know what the "locals" have to say about it?

My first bowl was middle of last year: i didn't dry it out because i was too young in my smoking experience to know the benefits of letting a baccy dry out. After lighting it up, it had a very "unique" flavor to it that resembled its tin aroma (which is different). I had to put the pipe down after the 1st 1/4 of the bowl because i was tripping balls. So, after that i kinda signed it off as "too strong" for me. I just got done smoking another bowl to celebrate the several inches of snow we just got in Memphis This is only my 2nd bowl of this stuff and i much more preferred my second bowl, maybe because i dried it out a bit. Again, that same interesting taste to it. I can't put my finger on it (whether it's the Tanz leaf or the tonguin), but i really like it. I had trouble finding the Virginian tobacco, but it did taste very pleasant (just caught me off guard when i didn't sense that strong of a "natural" taste, not necessarily a bad thing). I didn't trip off this one. What it did leave me was a great aftertaste... well, sort of a lack-of aftertaste. It's weird, usually after i smoke i have that tobacco tongue which isn't all that pleasant for me. But this one had a very mild aftertaste and extremely smooth. Very smooth smoke (don't inhale thou ), great taste, exceptionally creamy, and no bite anywhere.

So what has it been like for you?

Harsh. I prefer it damp. Seems the drier it is, the harsher it is. The taste of Tonquin isn't really appealing and after getting the full flavor I can't help but taste it in Bracken Flake too. The gorgeous thing about nicotene tolerance is it goes up and down according to what you've gotten used to smoking recently, but I never go out for "too much nicotene too fast" tobaccos because I totally miss the nic hit and just feel like I could chain smoke Camel non-filters non-stop the remainder of the day and never get a fix or, if you can't relate to that, like I just drank myself sober after pulling an all-nighter on an empty stomach.

Yeah, it's some African bean used as a vanilla flavor for candy and tobacco i believe.

Re: what's your experience been like w/ 1792?

I just recently purchased a tin of SG 1792 flake. I have a fairly high nicotene tolerance but I still can only handle small bowls of this stuff. Not my everyday smoke but one that I keep around for times when I want a more full bodied, straight forward tobacco taste. After smoking a bowl of this, I can definitely tell that I've smoked a strong tobacco. I have heard others mention the distinct smell/aroma of the tonquin topping but I guess I really don't notice it that much. Overall, 1792 is first rate tobacco. It's one that I keep around for the occasional smoke.

I'm gonna have to save some loot to give this a try.. I am looking for a fuller smoke out of a pipe.

Definitely a full smoke for me, but the thing i was impressed most w/ was the lack of bite and the exceptionally smooth and creamy taste.

For me, it's one of those Love/Hate Tobaccos, either you Love it or you Hate it!

Personally, I Hate it!

Re: what's your experience been like w/ 1792?

I see where it has the potential to be "one of those blends" that can make you sick even just thinking about it, after you've loved it for a certain period of time. I think i was that way w/ Luxury Twist Flake. The first time i smelled/tasted it, i was like "AWESOME!" Now it makes me a little queazy. I hope that doesn't happen w/ 1792

i agree with Johnny on this part.

i'm in the "Love It!" side of the aisle.

it's a great smoking tobacco, almost all SG flakes i've had are. it's the flavor/strength that get some ppl to steer clear. it's an odd one, one that takes some getting use to if you find yourself craving it (which i did).
this and Bracken Flake, which are nearly identical it's been said (other than the tonquin bean), are in that love it/hate it arena.
