Question A question about DGT, kind of...

A question for all ye wise sages of the briar:

Lately, I've found myself loading a pipe and smoking it for the duration of a day (about 12 hours). I'll smoke for a 1/2 hour or so, run a pipe cleaner down the stem, let the pipe sit for an hour or two, relight for another 1/2 hour or 45 minutes, run a pipe cleaner down the stem, let it sit for another few hours, and finish off the bowl near the end of the day followed by a cleaning (taking the pipe apart). I've been reading up on DGT, but will such a long period of smoking on and off hurt the briar at all? The tobacco seems to hold a quality taste throughout the day. I'll usually let the pipe sit for 24-72 hours before loading a fresh bowl.

I ask, mainly, because I don't have enough pipes to smoke 3 quarter or half bowls in 3 different pipes, so I've been smoking one full bowl throughout the day.

Im not a wise sage of the briar......... BUT,

I think you'll be fine smoking a bowl through-out the day, I dont think the multiple re-lights will hurt one bit. I dont have a lot of pipes either, and I've smoked two or three full bowls from the same pipe in a day before, I have to let it rest a few days afterwards but so far no ill effects.

If it isn't getting all swampy and staying soggy down yonder in the nether regions I guess it's good to go. However, there is a cheap-oid strategy to defend the single briar called, get a meer or a couple of cobs.

As long as the tobacco still tastes good, this style of smoking will not hurt the pipe.
