Going to my Tobacco store tomorrow.

Im hoping to try alot of tobacco tommorrow. I've only smoked one aromatic and two english blends so far. I want to try some Virginia and some oriental, perique, latakia, whatever.... Do all these types taste pretty much the same from brand to brand, tinned or bulk? Or could a tin of Mccellands Virgiana taste totally different from the bulk I'll be trying tomorrow?

There would be some difference between Bulk and tin. But more importantly...there's a big difference between say a Sam Gawith Full VA Flake and a McClee's VA.

Basically there are similarities between types of blends regardless of brand but most are very, very different.

^^^^ Agreed. They should be similar at their core, but there are different undertones and subtleties you will be able to pick up on (from brand to brand).

But if I like one English, that will give me a good idea that I'll like another right?

Usually you could assume that. English tobacco has that distinctive smokiness to it, so it's safe to infer most others will follow suite to an extent.

I wish it were that easy, I've been looking around the entire local area and found that stores local to me only carry Captain Black, and stuff that's more rolling tobacco than pipe tobacco.

Now I have to drive about 30miles out of my way to Los Angeles, I plan on checking out the Tinder Box tomorrow in Santa Monica.

Plazma, It is that easy. sign up for the newbie sampler trade. I did a couple trades on the newb end when I first arrived on the forum and was able to try a bunch of different stuff to quickly establish a rotation of my own (which makes experimenting more fun now that I've got a base that I know I can return to). Best of luck.

Re: Going to my Tobacco store tomorrow.

Are tobacconists usually pretty firm on their prices?
I'd really prefer to buy from the store as opposed to online, but the pipe I've been looking at online at 72 dollars was about 30 dollars more in the store. A pipe tool that was about 10 dollars online was 24 at the store.
I figured it would cost me a little more, but why so much?

Oh, I tried another english, a cavendish, and bought a tin of samuel gawith's full virginia flake, which must be the type of tobacco camel uses in it's full flavored cigs. It took me a while to figure out where I've smelled that smell before. Or maybe I'm just

You're paying the mark up so they can make a profit. Online stores take less profit per item but make it up in volume moved
