Ebay Carnuaba and question about tripoli and the other plastic polisher
I see some wax on ebay ... by "Spawnrgn" (stores name is "GreatgoodsrUs"). Anyone know if the stuff he has is really carnuaba wax? (so many products say 100% carnuaba .. and I'm learning that they are not).
Also, I bought 3 polishing wheels, some tripoli and the other plastic polisher .. I can't remember the 3 letters .. (I'm at work) is it CBV .. or CBR .. or something. Anyway, I had no trouble applying the tripoli .. and it worked well. But the CBR plastic finisher polish was kind of powdery (it came in a cylinder block). Is it normal to seem so hard and dry? I put it on the wheel but a lot of it flies off (when applying at high speed). |

From what I've seen of it, pure carnauba is yellowish and hard as a rock - but brittle as glass. Using it is a pain, the buffing wheel has to rub on it to collect enough, then slow down the wheel (or you could singe your briar) and rub it off onto the bowl.

Re: Ebay Carnuaba and question about tripoli and the other plastic polisher
the compounds i use (carnuba & the Home Depot version of White Diamond plastic polish) are both brittle. i charge the wheel for about 2 or 3 sec spinning at about 1700/1800 RPM. i apply the polish at the same speed, but apply the carnuba a bit slower (about 1000 RPM). it takes a bit of experimenting to learn how fast to turn the pipe to get the desired result. personally i don't bother w/the tripoli, it's too easy to blur sharp edges IMHO. i hand sand instead, wet, w/600, 1000 & 2000 grit. for rusticated/sandblasted pipes i use Deni-Care bowl polish, just because that's what i have handy. i rub it on w/a finger then polish w/a loose wheel on a drill.
i use the same carnuba that RJ does, BTW.
