Re: Charring light with a zippo

I'm glad people have had success with Zippos. Maybe I'll pick one up and try that new fuel. I always liked the idea of a Zippo and was disappointed to hear that they were rumored to impart a bad taste.

What they said....

I have a pipe Zippo and an Old Boy. I like the Zippo more (some readers will cringe when they see that).

I DO use the Old Boy or a match for the charring light IF I filled the bowl to the top - I have that same problem sometimes.

But for the most part I don't fill a bowl to the top - never really have time for a full bowl - so I use the Zippo 99% of the time.

Ditto on letting it burn for a moment to prevent any bad flavors from the Zippo fluid.

And now I'm wanting a new pipe Zippo....

Finally. A bi-lightist Zippite with cajones.

That sounds kinky. It also sounds like it might burn some hair.

This is the exact Zippo I use. It was a thoughtful Christmas present from the wife. I've never had any issues lighting a pipe with it at all. Works great in my opinion.

SUPER WIFE.

SUPER SECRET TIP: Speaking of charring lights - I had two Zippos like that - one plated shiney and one brushed. As for the shiney plated version, I often find it helps to light up the pipe then angle the lighter over the bowl at 45* during hter first couple of draws so I can see the top of the pipe reflected. A quick glance tells if the whole top is lit, if it's lit evenly and if the fill was properly comrpessed. Works like a charm. Improves filling and lighting technique quickly.
