Re: When drying out a flake...

Some flakes are hard to rub out when soggy, they could ball up into lumps. SG FVF for example, have to dry the flake out a bit before crumbling it up.

It varies from blend to blend and just depends on what kind of flake I'm working with. Some I prefer moist and others I might air dry for a bit or just smoke at whatever moisture level the tin is currently at. Some I rub out, some I fold and stuff and some, especially thick and sticky SG flakes, I cube cut.

Re: When drying out a flake...

Lay the flake(s) in a container (old MacBaren tin), allow to dry then crumble up. Only about a third of the time though, most just fold, roll and stuff.

Same here.

Some I fold and stuff, some I rub out to varying degrees, and with some (usually the smaller flakes) I use the "ball method" - I roll it into balls and load. I'm about to try the stack method whereby you cut the flakes into lengths just narrower than the pipe bowl and stack like pancakes with a little loose baccy on the top - and perhaps the very bottom.

Re: When drying out a flake...

I cut the flakes up when damp into little squares, then dry and drizzle into bowl and light and tamp very lightly. My pipe does get a little hot.

Maybe I'll next try the fold and stuff technique. If I have to relight more than ...say 10 times that would mean the weed is too damp?

Re: When drying out a flake...

Same as some others here..... I let the flakes dry out a bit then crumble and let dry some more to desired level.

Re: When drying out a flake...

I always rub the flakes out weather before or after they dry. I find better flavor and easier smoking if there dry and rubbed out.
