Ebay problems always suck.....been there done that. I will say though that I have never had a problem with Priority Mail, thats how I ship stuff to friends and always with a tracking number,(maybe I'm just lucky) I'm with Moo....something smells rotten.

The fact that you mentioned a possible loss in the mail left you open creating an excuse, in the future, I suggest, you let them make that assumption if another similar mishap occures.....You did what you were supposed to do.
Sorry for your loss.

Re: Still Irked about this eBay mess

I have bought and sold on eBay for 11 years. I always ship USPS Priority Mail (unless the item is going out of the country, which has happened). I buy postage online at the USPS website and I enter the buyer's e-mail address, so they get a shipping notice in e-mail directly from the USPS and they can track the package.

The seller's story sounds fishy. In most cases sellers offer optional insurance and if the buyer doesn't take it he or she assumes liability for any lost shipments. The tracking number is proof that the item was actually shipped. While it is not impossible that the seller simply chose to be benevolent and give you a refund, that would be the exception.

I wouldn't leave negative feedback unless you are absolutely certain that the seller was jerking you around. In this case I don't believe that you have proof - only a suspicion that may or may not be true. Just to be safe I would give neutral feedback and say that the item never arrived, but the seller refunded your money. That way you aren't rewarding them if they did sell to someone else, but you aren't damaging their overall reputation if they didn't.

In a situation like that, I would leave a neutral and state the facts to the best of your knowledge. That way, you're not slandering the guy without merit but at the same time, you raise a flag to potential bidders.

I occasionally got notes with packages that read, "please leave posative feedback and I will do the same for you". I left none and enough of us bitched about those stupid notes that ebay no longer allows sellers to leave negative feedback on buyers.

Re: Still Irked about this eBay mess

Along with the OPs suggestions about leaving neutral FB, I would mention in the FB the type of pipe it was, that way if someone else is looking at an auction for the same pipe, they know something is up.

Sucks, sorry to hear it. Again, I ship everything priority, and while I have had packages come open and be damaged in transit, I have never seen a completely lost package.

Very mature and very fair. You sound like the type of Ebayer that we all hope to encounter. We aren't always to be so lucky, so lessons are learned. I always demand insurance and tracking and offer to pay. Have had only ONE seller decline to complete a transaction with those requirements and they disappeared shortly thereafter as a seller.

A buck is a buck and there are some who will stab their own family in the back to get one. I feel for you phatmax and I hope that an even better pipe at even a better deal is in your future!

About...? About...........??? He didn't even know what freaking day it shipped?!? Then his first solution to your issue was to offer a refund.!?! (Awe, **** it! Shit, out another $50+ thanks to an incompetent mail service) Not much doubt in my mind he knew it wasn't going to make it to your door

Re: Still Irked about this eBay mess

I have ebay'd many pipes and feedback is your only weapon. I expect good feedback from the seller because I use ****** immediately after the auction and I don't give feedback untill I have the pipe in my greedy little fingers. Once satisfied that all was as described.....I give good feedback. Of over 30 pipes purchased this way, only 1 was a dissapointment. Long live ebay!! BTW....That was a great looking pipe. I love Danish Freehands!!
