The Thread: Porch, Rooftop and Balcony Smoking

This thread is not about walks, basements, parks or stairwells - it's about pipe smoking on the rooftop, front/back/side porch, balcony or, for our Hawaiian friends, the lanai. Photos are optional but preferred.

I am happy spring is here and pine-pollen is on the way out. Rivers of yellow are almost a distant memory and daily chair-wiping will be history after another rainfall or two. That means the screened-in porch will open for business.

Good setup for spring, summer and fall - 110AV service; lights; four oversized teak rockers; a small rolling table for drinks, ashtrays, laptop & speakers; screened; view to the south into the woods - an owl and several local redtail hawks work the fringes. Lots of glass looking into the house - Mrs. Moo sometimes walks by and waves.

I think this evening

I am indeed looking forward to the coming warm, summer nights.

Not good enough, even lat-heavy blends!

Haha, of course.
We've got a love-hate relationship . . . They love me, and I stinkin' hate the buggers. At least they don't leave as big a mark here in So Cal as they did in east Texas.

Here's my little slice of over-priced suburbian heaven. I can't wait until the greenery comes in fully and provides more privacy. It's my first house and I love it. The deck against the house is covered, but I've been considering closing it in fully.

Re: The Thread: Porch, Rooftop and Balcony Smoking

With my most recent home purchase, I opted for more house and less yard. Kids never played in the old yard and we were kind of squeezed in. Now we've got plenty of room and the good news is that I have my own private smoking room. So it's a hit no matter the season. I do tend to open the windows in the nice weather, however. And it might need a repaint in a few years....

Man, and I was enjoying my pipe standing against a drain pipe in the parking lot for my apartment building. Now I see what I've been missing. Low rent apartments for a grad school budget just don't have the class necessary to accompany pipe smoking.

Indeed. A walk down the street to Starbucks is my go-to 'porch,' though sometimes one wants a bit of peace and quite.

Been there, done that, my friend... and with less classy tobacco than you smoke! I used to take long drives in the cold weather so I could smoke my pipe. Eventually I got a part time job at a tobacco shop and that helped facilitate regular puffing. And over time I became the picture of wealth and excess that you see before you today.

Ah. Yes. Suffer the grad student(s). Lets put our minds to this.

How about the alley around behind Starbucks porch! And carry a sit-down cane and wear a wide-brimmed mosquito hat and you're jake 24/7 - instant portable porch. And again, there you have it!

I have had my folding sitdown-cane for decades and it never misses, except on soggy spongey soccer fields. Excellent investment for a walking pipe smoker.

Top drawer - way over the Flipstik price - is the fancy-schmancy leather + no-sink-in-the-mud base disk adapter.... creme-de-la-creme for any pipe smoker.

With the amount I smoke, a trip to Starbucks is not really viable at a time of credit crisis....this is my Starbucks:

coffee time

I'm lucky, my wife is a non-smoker who HATES cigarettes with a passion. But she doesn't mind tobacco smoke. She'll let me smoke inside anytime, no matter what tobacco I'm smoking. I love the outdoors so I take every opportunity I can to smoke outside.
