Ugh I just broke my brand new pipe (well new to me) It broke right where the stem connects to the shank when it rolled off my desk which was no more than 3 feet off the ground.
Anyway is there anything practical that can be done to fix it? Could I epoxy it? Buy a new stem? or would it be cheaper to just get a new pipe? ![]() --Total Noob |

Re: I broke my pipe! Can it be saved?
I think the cheapest I have seen to have a new stem made is $25 and they will probably charge to pull the tenon. So you have to decide if your pipe is worth investing another $25+. I wouldn't think epoxy would work for long if you got the tenon pulled to apply it. IMO

Re: I broke my pipe! Can it be saved?
Good news I managed to pull out the tenon with a screw. Since I see there isn't much point in getting a new stem that would cost more than what I payed for the pipe I'm just gonna try to fix it with some epoxy. If anyone has any better ideas I would love to hear them. If this doesn't work I'll just get a new one but I want to at least try to save this pipe, I think it has character.

you can get a delrin tenon installed for $18, vulcanite or lucite for around $22 IIRC. if ya like the pipe & it smokes well for ya, it's worth it IMHO. PM me if you need suggestions for repairmen.

Re: I broke my pipe! Can it be saved?
The exact same thing happened to me and it cost $5 to fix. Ask around your local B&M - maybe they'll have something for you.
edit: they didn't replace the stem, they fixed the original. Don't ask me how. |

Great news Gents! I've fixed the tenon as good as new, and it smokes like nothing happened
![]() I used some stuff called "J-B Weld" Its super strong, heat resistant epoxy (up to 600F). It is typically used to make repairs on things like engine blocks. All I did was apply a small amount where I wanted to glue it back on and wiped away the excess with a wet q-tip. Then I just held it in place with a rubber band while it dried. You can barely even make out the seam where i glued it. Last edited by MonkeysInACan; 04-23-2009 at 11:47 PM.. |
