How do I persuade the wife?

You guys got any tips on getting the wife to smoke a pipe? I know she'll never be a regular pipe smoker, but every once in a while might be nice. She hates cigarettes but will smoke cloves every once in a while if we're drinking. I think my best chance is to smoke the right tobacco in a small pipe in one of those situations when she'd normally be open to a clove and offer her a few puffs. Any suggestions on a good "wife" tobacco? Her clove of choice is Djarum Black if that makes a difference.

My advice would be to find a "tolerable" aro you like and she likes the room note of. Just keep asking her and she'll eventually give in. Good luck.

I don't think that my wife will ever smoke a pipe, but she loves the CAO flavours minis.

Why not just be straight forward and honest with her, and ask. Tell her It is important to you, and something you would like to share with her. It's not like your trying to talk her into a three way or something.

I'm all for being straightforward and honest, which is why I can't say it's important to me. It's not and I don't want her to do it for me.

I think she would enjoy smoking a pipe every once in a while if she tried it. And I would enjoy smoking with her - an evening out on the balcony talking and smoking is way better than an evening in front of the TV. But I wouldn't want her to smoke a pipe just because I would enjoy it, I want her to do it because she likes it.

As far as importance goes, I think maybe we're using different connotations of the word. In the big picture, what's it matter if she smokes a pipe or even if I smoke a pipe? There are other things that are important to me that I'd like to do with my wife, I'm saving my important card for those.

If she's like most women tell her it helps with weight loss. that will do it even if she is fit and trim.

My girlfriend absolutely HATES cigarettes and actually doesn't smoke at all. She is however fine with me pipe smoking. One day she brought some Optimo Peach cigarillos with her to my house (once again, she doesn't smoke. the reason she brought them is because she knows I like pipe smoking and I guess figured that also meant I like flavored cigarillos) and we started puffing on those. We both agreed they tasted like smoking a newspaper so I offered to pack a pipe for us to smoke. She said that sounded nice, so I packed up a bowl of McConnell's Red Virginia. To my surprise, she totally digged it! Since then we have also shared a bowl of Boswell's Premium Burley (I figured she would most likely be into the lighter tasting aromatic tobaccos). She liked that one a lot too.
So to answer your question Brian, I think the key is to propose the idea of smoking a pipe together when she is already in a smoking mood. And ask it in a very unimposing way. Perhaps if she has already been around you smoking a nice smelling tobacco it will help.

My wife and I go camping whenever we can. I always bring pipes, and a cob for anyone that finds themself in the mood. I also bring the aromatic that "reminds them of that pipe smell " that everyone seems to have a memory of. It's usually Boswell's Blend or Butternut Burley.

My wife has puffed on a pipe a couple times with a friend of hers while tossing back drinks in the shade while I smoke my pipe.

About a month ago, we were in a B&M. She always picks out pipes for me, usually has pretty good taste. She picks up a Savinelli Duca Carlo and shows it to me. I said I didn't need another pipe. She said "No, it's for me!" I was floored.

Point is, find times that you enjoy together that facilitates pipe smoking. When the mood is relaxed, enjoyable, she'll be more open to it. But if she's not interested, there's no point in even trying.

I'm amazed no one has suggested this: buy her her own lady pipe (maybe a Butz choquin) and a tin of something like Peterson's Reserve. The 2009 is getting good reviews and the container tin is a winner with any lady.
