Dunhill tobaccos returning to American Market????

Seems like Dunhill tobaccos might be making a re-appearance. Here's an excerpt from another board:

As to the distribution of Dunhill pipe tobaccos into the North American market, Eric at Cupojoes posted the following information on group alt.smokers.pipes, and repeated to me in an email:

> Here's exactly what I said, and all that I can say at this time:
>
> "This summer, you will see the re-introduction of Dunhill tobaccos, possibly including > some previously discontinued blends. I am not at liberty to comment beyond that at >this time. Just relax and sit tight."

More detail than this, or information regarding the veracity of the comment or even the nature of distribution, I do not have. Let's wait & see....
I checked ASP and found that original message thread .... DUNHILL TOBACCOS - alt.smokers.pipes | Google Groups

Varies from unsupported, but well founded confirmation to a 50/50 chance, to some doubt.

Summer is a great time for such a surprise!

I often don't tend to believe statements like this, but I hope it's true.

This would be delightful if true. Especially the part about discontinued blends.

Local shop owner says that "Kim" his sales rep for tobaccos/pipes has told him that nobody wants to import Dunhill at this time. In other words, it isn't that we are "waiting" for someone to be named .. it is that the importers dropped Dunhill. Now, this is what I inferred from the conversation FWIW. The only thing I can figure is that Dunhill is not "playing ball" ... I read that as "not allowing the big importers to make as much $$ as they do on the other brands". Problems like this often come back to $$ ... who wants more of it .. and who isn't willing to give up $$. MHO.

Man, am I glad I don't know what I'm missing. This absence seems plain awful for those who have smoked Dunhill tobacco in the past. I hope it returns to the states for you guys.

If it returns, I've got you on my list to send some 965 and some Elizabethan. Then you'll know what you're commiserating about! I find most of the Dunhill blends ordinary (except for Golden Hours, which is some of the foulest stuff I've ever suffered through) but those two are extraordinary, IMHO.

Re: Dunhill tobaccos returning to American Market????

BAT or British American Tobacco owns the Dunhill Blends. Orlik who is the blender for BAT is rumored to be discontinuing the blends. Now that said BAT who owns the Dunhill blends pipe tobacco only may be looking to sell the Dunhill blends and focus on there other tobacco products. So its possible someone may buy the rights and reintroduce them. Then the only question will be what changes will they go thru like when Murry took over for Dunhill then Orlik took over from Murry. Guess we will wait and see and hope the changes aren't to drastic.

Re: Dunhill tobaccos returning to American Market????

BAT sold all rights to their pipe tobaccos of any note, excluding DUNHILL & CAPTAIN BLACK back in 2007. They sold them to Orlik .......

BAT's recent financial reports showed an increase in the prestige brands like Dunhill, but they weren't only speaking of pipe tobacco. It is a reasonable consideration to consider a return, as the Americas are their most profitable region.
