Well, I just managed a pipe on only one relight. It was with a damp aromatic too. The way I did this was by proactively scooping out some of the ash (since I know about when the relits have been occurring) and then pulling the tobacco around the outside of the bowl over the hole where the ash was, and then lightly tamping. I think this was what sounds7 was describing. I'm next going to experiment with what Mad Hatter describes.
However, I must say that this *is* probably more work than just relighting my usual 2 times. |

when i first started pipe smoking i was concerned with that but now i find that who cares. i now just concentrate on the enjoyment and not overheating the pipe, so if i have to relight a couple of times and ensure a good smoke and better care of my pipes oh well.
