The wife and I are going to Vegas in August for a wedding, so hopefully I can get everyone I'm going down with to bring back some tobacco for me as part of their personal exemption.
We went there last September for a wedding. It was 35 - 38 C every day. I didn't have the urge to light up in all that heat! My wife is going down with a few of her gf's. I'm sure the customs officer won't question 16 tins of tobacco as odd...
EDIT: Also, I'm mostly an aromatic smoker and wanted to try something else. A fellow pipe smoker recommended Frog Morton by McClelland. It's a nice mellow smoke with no tongue bite. It's my favourite so far. The wife even likes the room note on it.
I'll check that out. I would still like to try some more aromatics as well - Especially since i'll be smoking in the house while the wife is Vegas. hehe. So it better smell nice when she returns.

For aromatics I mostly smoke a cavendish house blend from the local B&M. My experience with different tobaccos is quite limited still being fairly new to this and all. To date, this is what I've tried:

MacBaren Plumcake
McClelland Frog Morton
Peterson's Irish Whiskey
Captain Black Royal
Amphora Full Aroma
Amphora Malt Whiskey

So not a whole lot. I do like the Plumcake though. It's a light aromatic that has a bit of rum flavouring to it. It has a pretty good room note from what I've been told. It needs to be smoked slowly though as it can cause some tongue bite. The more bowls of it I smoke, the more I like it.

You have to have been a member for 30 days and have 30 posts to access it. I just got access earlier this week.

Plumcake is good stuff! Somebody recommended it to me when I was first starting out here. It definitely has some topping so that might put it int he realm of aromatics, but it's also a fantastic blend of tobaccos and it's got a distinctive profile. It can definitely bite, but like most tobaccos, drying it out diminishes that greatly.

I guess they should rename it the NQSNST (Not Quite So Newguy Sampler Thread). Anyhow, it'll do what JohnnyFlake has already offered - get you a range of quality gear from an experienced guy who can tailor a package to your tastes.

Two thumbs up for JohnnyFlake.

Re: tobacco suggestions...

i yahoo'd JohnnyFlake so we'll see what this is all about.

Just told the wife today I was 'collecting' pipes and perhaps smoking them too. She was concerned...'you're not going to smoke them every day though, right?'. "Of course not dear...it's only for a nice warm evening or at the lake". Riiiiiiiight, that's what we'll go with. I'm more open to something with a pleasant room note as it's still damn cold outside and maybe I can smoke inside (probably the basement though -but that's where the theatre room is yippee for me ) . I only smoke half of a full bowl this evening as I was almost in need of a toque!

I received the email! I'll get a package out to you ASAP!

Let us all know what you think of the tobaccos, once you've had a chance to try them!

Re: tobacco suggestions...

just checked the post box today and to my grinning face saw a key to the larger mail box. Could only mean one thing... either Canada Post was able to fit a set of Cobra Speedster shorts (exhaust) into the box or it was the package from Johnny Flake. No exhaust. Nice box of assorted tobacco from Mr. Flake!! I rushed into the house and opened it. A package of Trout Stream (which i've been enjoying for the last couple of hours on the deck), some Lane IQ, Carter Hall, box of Prince Albert, box of Granger, and a package of Captain Black Gold. Johnny Flake - you are a god! Now i just have to find the time to try it all!! Luckily my wife has been in Vegas all weekend so I can partake without any hassle all day tomorrow.

Thank you again and so far I've very much enjoyed the Trout. I'll sample something different tomorrow and report back.

Now YOU need to tell me what I can send you from Canuckistan.
