I hope that you don't set it to full grind! That would make the tobacco so fine that it will get sucked into the stem and out the bit! I've been thinking of using a grinder too, but would like to know how long to grind the tobacco so it's just right. Do you grind only flakes?

The kind I have is just a Krups "pulse style" grinder. It's just a quick 5 pulses, not a constant grind.

I mostly use it for flake tobaccos, sometimes a hard cake. It mostly serves just to break it up. Works quite well. I don't see a real need to cut down ribbon tobacco. That's about the consistency I'm trying to achieve by grinding the flakes.

Grinder is a misnomer for this device. It's a chopper. Chopping sounds right for tobak - grinding sounds like ruination.

Too true, Mister MOO!!

This is a blade style "chopper", not a burr grinder.

This is what I use and it works perfectly. It's a Black & Decker Handy Chopper Plus. I think I paid $8 for it on sale.

The device in question is actually a mini-food processor. It would chop baccy. A coffee grinder would also work, and it is smaller and cheaper. The air pocket method is the way to go, especially if you have a Poker

I've got that one! But I use to chop up condimental ingredients for my specialty marinara sauce. Madonn'!... I think I'll just get another one.

Re: My First Experience with Tinned Tobaccos

I finally got around to trying some SG Brown XX yesterday and I see why you guys have grinders of some sort. Cutting it up by hand into small pieces takes a while.

Anyway, it *is* high in nicotine! I smoked a pipe and had to go lie down.

I hear ya there. Full Virginian Flake was really strong for me as well from Gawith. Gawith's Best Brown Flake is supposedly FVF's younger brother with not as much nicotine but with a very similar flavor.

I have smoke Dan Milonga from the tin and now (as from my other post) have some MacBaren Dark twist...

Not sure if I will rub it or burn it in the medallions.
