B&M Deals, List yours

I think I just got a decent deal at one of my nearby B&Ms.

MacBarens Dark Twist 100g tin for 11.99.

Online I have found it for 14.35; 13.14; and upwards of 32.50 at another B&M.

Also, just for comparison, they are selling Baronet Bruyere pipes for 76 bucks... when they are 49.50 online.

Some of the (lesser) B&M's - or those that don't have much of a pipe clientele - have really old tins. The price tags they stuck on it a decade ago, is probably still on it. Probably too much work to hunt down each tin and re-label it every few months.

If its dusty, its probably old as dirt, valuable as gold, true. Dusty gold then.

Most of the B&M's here can't give a good deal because of the new state and federal taxes. Not to mention before the tax hike a 50g tin of Squadron Leader was $12.95. Hard to support that. I do try to buy some bulk lanes stuff and pipe cleaners from time to time just to buy something from them.

The local B&M here gave me a pretty good deal on my Pete System. Basically sold it to me for what I'd pay to purchase from an online US vendor after shipping, exchange, etc. It was quite the discount from his asking price so I was happy.

I get my P&T magazine from the local B&M. They only charge $3.95.

Even if the price sticker is current, I consider a "pre-aged" tin stuck in the back corner of a B&M shelf for the same price as a new one to be a good deal.

Nothing too spectacular lately. I did score an estate il Ceppo sandblast with a silver band for $80 which would probably have sold for about $125 at a shop with a knowledgable proprietor.

The best deal I ever heard of was a guy who walked into the shop I worked at years ago and told a co-worker of mine (I wasn't working that day) that he wanted a brand new Randy Wiley pipe that cost $85. He didn't have any money but was willing to trade an old Dunhill Gold Spigot straight up. Needless to say, my co-worker jumped at the deal. I'd like to say that I would have told the guy his pipe was worth $500 as an estate pipe and he would be getting stung. I'd LIKE to say that, but....

Nobody like a braggard! VERY nice score Moo. I am looking forward to going hunting for old tins at B&Ms this summer while humming the theme song from Jaws or perhaps Mission Impossible. I haven't decided yet.
