Air purifier

I am moving to a new house. We want to set up one room as a smoking room. I am looking for an air purifier to keep the smells and smoke down and prevent them for stinking up the rest of the house. Anyone here familiar with these things?

Your best bet is to install an exhaust fan. Ideally a ceiling kind, run a flex hose to a wall and put in a vent. Don't get the little bathroom kinds, they don't move crap (except the smell of it). Check the CFM rating, and the noise level. Get the highest CFM (cubic feet per minute) with the lowest sound. Damn things can make a racket. A window fan turned to point outward will do in a pinch, but a good vent fan will literally suck the smoke out and spew it into the neighbors yard.

Re: Air purifier

I bought a PureIon filter from Brookstone. It does a pretty good job. I only smoke in my office - that's where I have the purifier. With the door closed and the purifier on (and the window cracked) you can't smell the smoke in the rest of the house.

It is loud though. It has a whisper mode but its still fairly loud.

I'd recommend reading this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/14/ga...&sq=air&st=cse
And if any locality has recently enacted smoking bans, you should check with restaurants, bars, etc. to see if any of them want to sell their now virtually worthless smoke-eater systems. You should be able to get a bargain.

Re: Air purifier

I bought one of these about 10 years ago and it was great then,,,I lost it in a move and went and bought one of these again on Ebay and it works amazing for any kind of smell,,,,for pipes, cigars, animals, etc. It ionizes and refreshens the air and I highly recommend it. If you want to do the exhaust fan that is also a great idea,,,but I didn't want to pay that much nor did I want to hear the drone of the fan when this purifier does the job. Good luck there in Acworth,,,,

Cigary, those look fantastic for putting up in the window. A bit pricey, but worth it I'm sure (the ionization really caught my eye). Certainly a prospect for resolving the hot, muggy, smokey room situation for this summer.

Re: Air purifier

If you go the exhaust fan route measure up your cubic feet and get a fan just a little larger than what you need. Dont overkill it cause youll create a negative pressure. If you get a purifier......spend the money and get an ozone generator....they will get rid of the smells. They use em in the hotel I work at part time to clean the smells when somebody smokes in em. They work good.

The best thing about this unit is that you can put them on the floor,,behind a plant,,,out of sight and let it do it's job,,,I love mine as it keeps the air fresh all day and all night and we have 2 dogs and 2 cats and everyone doesn't believe we have pets inside the house,,,no odors at all. This unit also doesn't take much electricity and we keep it on 24 hours a day,,,,my wife has allergies and once we bought this thing she doesn't complain anymore,,,matter of fact I can't get her out of the house during pollen season so you might want to factor that in if your wife has allergies,,,she'll be staying in a bit more. Good luck with the search.

Being only 12x8", how well does it move air? Would it work well in a small office set up in the window?
