Stunning rustication work...I read somewhere that the idea with giant pipes originally comes from Denmark, you would fill a large pipe in the morning and as you went about your daily business, you just lite her you when you want a smoke. I suppose you wouldn't have to carry around two pipes and tobacco.

That's basically what I did with my Peterson XLs (which are nowhere near as large as that). Fill a couple pipes in the morning and grab them off the shelf as needed throughout the day.

Pipes this big are really for exhibition not really practical to use IMO. I have a rather large pipe that is 4inch in height and 9 inches long but it doesn't weigh half of what this pipe weighs nor does it have a bowl that big. The bowl is deep though. I never smoke it and it is like a piece of furniture to me and a nice conversation piece but thats it.
