A tip of the hat to a fine Irish Gentleman

Herr Mayor and fine Irishman Dubinthedam sent me a tin of Three Nuns from across the waves in a gesture of solidarity and friendship. I haven't cracked the tin yet but can hardly wait to sink my tastebuds into this legendary tobacco that rarely sees the American shores. A big thank you to you Pearcy. This is a fine gesture indeed!

I take it you got the package then. Three Nuns is a winner, it was a little pricey here, but recently a major pipe tobacco importer (Bastard!) has bumped up his margin for Rattray's, McConnell's, Ashton's and Peterson's (all from K+K in Germany). This now means these tins are all around the €11 mark, it also means I'll be smoking more 3 Nuns myself, I just hope they don't bump their prices up too.

Still no joy on the tamper (official Mayor's Tamper) this side of the water, it happens sometimes...will post pics as soon as it arrives.....Enjoy that baccy, she's for smoking. I love to see a smoking Nun myself.

Something about irish and nuns and recent news had me thinking this thread was going somewhere else. But I digress, How is 3 nuns and what style tobacco is it? I've never tried it.

It's usually the priests that are in the news....Three Nuns is a bright aged VA with a touch of Perique. It has loads of crystals when you open the tin, curly cut discs...its a joy to behold. Usually smokeable straight from the tin, I get hints of cigar and malt cookies. Quality VA. Funny thing is it's a very famed English tobacco, but of course now made in Denmark. In England it can only be bought in a drugstore pouch, in disc form or ready rubbed, it has been a favorite of many noted English gentlemen over the decades. Lastly...the pipe smoking world is full of oldies who say, " 3 Nuns faafh...nothing like it used to be in my day...Bah humbug".

Your making my mouth water & I'm starting to drool with your description of 3 Nuns.

I've now been around pipesmoking long enough to tire of the "back in the day ....." on blends gone but not forgotten.

I never had them but feel we have a huge selection of great blends out available that I'll never get through them all.

Nope. I watch TV to relax. I come to the pipe forum for the same reason. I try not to feed my negative emotions. And I know there's no crying in baseball and the pipe forum should be the same way.

Dub
What is shipping running from Amsterdam these days? Is there anywhere in Amsterdam that carries it or does it have to be ordered from Germany? I'm thinking i may be over there in August but I am still not 100% sure. I would like to try 3 nuns also and a Musician friend of mine has mentioned he wants me to bring back some dutch cigars called "Old Comfort". I am really looking forward to getting back over there just to get my hands on rare tobacco not seen on our American shores.
