Taste buds are funny things

I wonder if anyone else has had this experience. I started out the evening with a very nice blend by G.L. Pease called Abington and it was a thoroughly enjoyable smoke. However as I was lounging in the aftermath and enjoying my Koi fish pond i asked my son to go to the tobacco cellar and bring me a random jar of something. He returned with a Comptons blend called "Balkan Mixture" I fired it up in the very same pipe which is something I normally do not do. I was having a lazy moment and didn't want to bother with getting a new pipe etc. But the funniest thing happened as a result. The flavor that hit me from this second smoke was simply amazing! This taste was one of the most enjoyable pipe experiences I have had in quite some time. I don't recall the "Balkan Mixture being that extremely good before. I got to thinking about taste buds and some experiences I have had with wine and certain foods and how you drink a certain wine with different dishes. Cheese always makes my Chardonnay taste even better. Beer and mixed nuts is another example. Could what I experienced this evening with the two tobacco blends be this same thing? I personally think so. I am sure the opposite can happen as well if the wrong tobacco were to follow the first smoke. My son has magic hands. I shall have to get him to go fetch again in the future.

Yes it happens, both ways.

It might have been the ghost of the previous bowlful ya smoked in that pipe that accented the second bowlful. A mediocre baccy smoked in a well-ghosted pipe by a stronger blend can result in a great (or weird) smoke.
