Last night after many hours laboring in my smoking lounge/bar I shot these YT videos. I am not a expert of Whisky or the art of pipe smoking but enjoyed testing/tasting various parings of them. Would love others feedback & wisdom on this,

Re: Parings of Pipes, Tobaccos & Whisky

I would not pair a heavily peaty malt with a heavy latakia blend... although that's probably what the Scots do! Too many heavy flavors sort of cancel each other out, IME. I'd probably couple the penzance with something like Highland Park or a Speyside, and I'd leave the Islay malts to lighter Virginia blends or VaPers. And no Glenfiddich here. It doesn't go with anything! Even when I'm in the mood for a light malt, I can find one more interesting than that. It's got all the depth of a puddle.

But that's just my personal taste. YMMV.

Thanks for the feedback, while I like the 1 - 2 punch of Penzance with a heavily peaty malt like Laphroaig, today I felt like something more delicate. Just tried some Bruichladdich 10 & Robert McConnell Red Virginia, sure hit the spot for me. I find they enhance each other & something I could enjoy for hours.

Also couldn't agree with you more in that Glenfiddich isn't good for anything, it was a xmas present. Looks like I prefer Islay malts & JW Green plus JW Red I use for Rusty Nails.

1 Pairing: Penzance in a Sasieni Four-Dot Duxford blastie with Guinness Extra Stout.

2 Pairing: CH in an MM Diplomat with Mountain Dew in dat der front porch rocker.

I take it back... Glenfiddich is good for something. It's good for the "scotch and soda" set. If someone disrespects the malt to the point where they need to add soda, Glenfiddich is the malt to disrespect.

Penzance and Laphroiag... whew! Don't get me wrong, I love 'em both... just not together. 1-2 punch, indeed!

Cant recommend good pairings between blends & drink but I can say that both GlenLivet and/or Macallan make superb pre-pipe, during pipe and post-pipe liquids.

PS's Balkan Supreme or Ashton's Artisan's Blend with a tall stiff Booker's and branch water is unbeatable ..... YMMV!

Thinking about wandering over lee's and getting a bottle - regular Bushmills is my favorite Irish whiskey & heard the black is great plus Ralfy @ Ralfys whisky site. suggested adding a few drops of a Islay single malt like Laphroaig for my idea of a mixed drink

Want to try this with some University or Irish flake.
