St. James blends: which one?
A minor but nagging question. I'm not familiar with the St. James blends, but understand that both are highly regarded. As I like Perique, I would like to know which St. James is da bomb: Gawith's St. James Flake or McClelland's St. James Wood? Or are both St. Jameses equally popular?
I like products marketed by both brands. But I find the name similarity a bit confusing in this case. I read elsewhere that St. James is the name of the London sector in which the old Dunhill frontstore was erected. Is it that this is a generically named category, which would allow anyone using certain ingredients to use the name St. James?

Re: St. James blends: which one?
SG's St. James Flake is a highly reputed vaper. I think it is produced with the same virginias used in FVF, with some perique added, of course.
I never had St. James Woods, but it seems to have many followers too. I´m under the impression that the name St. James derivated from a St. James Parish, in Louisianna, where perique has its origins. Perique is also called St. James weed, I believe... I may very well be wrong, though, but someone much wiser then me in this subjects will soon clear it out, for sure. Abraço, amigo Zeabed. I would take the Samuel Gawith if I had to choose.

Re: St. James blends: which one?
I've only had the SG, but it's in my regular rotation and I love it.

Re: St. James blends: which one?
Thanks both.
Sounds7, if SG is using FVF Vas in SJF I agree that they could indeed have the edge. O meu amigo Requiem: Acho que sua informacao e mesma boa. If SJF and SJW both have perique, of course the name SJ refers to the SJ Parish in La. What was I thinking? But i didn't know there were woods nearby in the parish, although nao conheco a terra, as I never estive la. Um abraco tamben.

Re: St. James blends: which one?
I smoke and have a cellar full of the St James Woods but I found the SG a little too bland. Good but not as flavorful, which might be exactly what you want. Diff'rent strokes....

Re: St. James blends: which one?
I love the SG St.James Flake - never tried the McCletchup woody version. Although, I remember some BOTLs complaining that it was a bear to light up and keep lit.

Re: St. James blends: which one?
Gee, we surely have a diversity of opinions on this issue it seems. Thank you all again. I'll send out for small tins of each and have them fight it out in smoking sessions scheduled for ten rounds, no TKOs allowed, just knockouts.

Re: St. James blends: which one?
I would have sent you a sample of Dan's Limerick (which I think is very similar) with the PIF but I didn't want your art supplies smelling like a ziplock baggie full of smokeweed

Re: St. James blends: which one?
My tin is one year old, I only notice the Heinz57 note in the tin and just after lighting. I dried it well, and cross-cut with a scissors. I find MC STJW to be a well-behaved flake, complex and enjoyable.
