Question for fans of Carter Hall....

Actually this could be a question for anyone who buys bulk tobacco in plastic tubs like the one Carter Hall comes in.

I've gone through a couple of the pouches of Carter Hall and decided to go ahead and buy the tub. How long will this type of tub keep the tobacco fresh?

If the top and tub are in good shape and undamaged, the tobacco inside can stay fresh for years.

My guess is forever, if you keep it sealed. Carter Hall is a good smoke.

Did you mean how long will it stay fresh once the seal is broken? Probably a couple of weeks or so. You might want to get a bail-top jar for it once you crack it. I don't know for sure but I would think you wouldn't want to dry out CH too much like you would a virginia tobacco.

I have a 12 oz tube of Cherry Blend (not sure why I bought it) I have had it since December 2008. It is still very very fresh- matter of fact it is very moist.

I guess I should have stated in my original post.

I have opened the tub and smoke it frequently, so the seal is broken. The tub is not damaged and neither is the lid. It closes up tightly when the lid is placed back on. It will take me awhile to smoke the whole tub and didn't know if it would be better to keep it in something other than the original tub.
