Thumbs up Found some aged goodies at a pipe shop in chicago! =)

So I was visiting a friend in Evanston, at the Nortwestern University campus and went to a small tobacco shop in town today. Ended up buying:
Oriental No.8 - dated 2004
Blackwoods Flake - dated 2005
Virginia No.27 - dated 2006
Dark Star - dated 2007
all McClellands, all 100gram tins

aannndd.... drum roll please....
2 tins of Royal Yacht, which I've been wanting to try for a long time! So delicious! I bought the last two tins they had, wish they had more but I'm grateful for the two I got... Not sure on date tinned as they weren't stamped, but I opened one tin and plan on letting the other age for several years.

I love treasure hunting in other towns! They had a whole wall of McClelland tins, most of which had atleast a year of age on them, but alas I only had $67 to spend... And I got all of those for a total of $62. Great trip for sure! I'll have to make some pilgrimages to search at some pipe shops in Little Rock or Nashville or somewhere closer to Memphis sometime when I've got a bit of money to spend on tins!

The Pipe and Tobacco shop in Little Rock, has McCleland and a few others, but their bulk tobacco is really great. Not a bad pipe selection either. I really love this place, great atomosphere great people, fun place to have a smoke and buy stuff.

TheTobacco bowl in Memphis has a real nice proprieter, but their tobacco selection is a little thin. Good deals on their pipes though... and they have more hidden under the counter...

dont bother with Hot springs shops as they are cigar shops with a bit of pipe stuff in them.

Don't bother with Little Rock. They may have a total of 10 tins on hand and their bulks are just Lane's junk, unless they have changed in the last couple of months. The people are pleasant though. Primarily a cigar shop.

It is always nice to make a find like that. I wish more makers dated their tins. I am sitting on a couple of 1999 McClellands tins at the moment and have others dating from 2002-2004.

I've recently popped a tin on No.27 (199 ....I'm loving the stuff. Dark Star is hard work but very tasty too.

I double checked when I was in there yesterday, they do have lane aromatics, but their bulk english and virginias are Mclelland.
It is true that they dont have many tins, but they do have Mclelland and Peterson, and some others.
Again their pipe selection is excellent, and most of the dudes behind the counter prefer pipes.

I may just be deprived, but this is the best pipe store i have been to.

I don't mean to knock the shop. They are definatly the best within 100+ miles. Howerver I wouldn't recomend someone to drive in from TN to check them out. Not to mention the last time I was in there I paid 11.99 for a tin of Squadron Leader and that was before the new state and fed taxes took effect. I might have to stop by and check into the bulk VA Mclelland stuff though.
