Storing bulk GLPease

How do you guys store your bulk tobacco that comes in cans?
I just bought two pounds of Westminster, and I'm wondering if it would be better to leave them in the cans or put it into mason jars. They aren't air-tight, then have a pull-top lid.

Ps. I just got my first "real" pipe. It's a Savinelli Quadale, or whatever it's called. I'm ever so eager to smoke it. It shall be a virginia pipe.

I don't know, but from your description it sounds like the "bulk" Pease is actually tinned. Bulk tobacco usually comes in bags. If it comes in tins with pull top lids, it's vacuum sealed and airtight. Leave it in the tins. Post a pic of the receptacle it came in so I can tell for sure.

And congrats on the pipe! Savs smoke really well up and down the line.

Re: Storing bulk GLPease

For Pease blends, I leave them in the 8 or 16 oz tins and store them. Once I happen to open one, I generally put a parcel in a 1/2-pint jar and the remainder in another suitable pint, quart or mix of jars.

It is a tin, but there's a pound in it. GLP comes in 2oz tins, 8oz tins, and 16 oz tins.

If you haven't opened the tins yet, then they will be air tight and okay for storing. If you have opened them, you probably ought to transfer the tobacco to mason jars or smoke it very quickly .

A sealed tin is, well, sealed. It will last forever and a day. However, if you popped that sucker open - then move its contents to smaller mason jars or other airtight container (so you can get at the smaller amounts over time without having to break the seal again).

Re: Storing bulk GLPease

If you plan on smoking the whole tin within 6 months or so just leave the tobacco in the can and keep the lid on. I have done this on MANY 8 oz cans with zero problems.

The un opened cans are good to go for cellaring for as long as you like.

I jar mine.
I don't want a whole pound to "mature" at the same time.
